Adapting to a COVID world In 2019, we sent nearly 2,000 people — our best year ever — to serve alongside our

partners around the world. In January 2020, we sent our Back to School team of 12 to La Casa de mi Padre in El Salvador, which was the ONLY team to serve that year. That May, we canceled our spring journeys and shortly thereafter, we canceled the remaining journeys for 2020.

An Encouraging Start In 2021, we worked closely with our partners and sent a limited number of teams to serve both internationally and in the U.S. The health and safety of our team members, the complexity and perceived risk of travel, the strict COVID-19 protocols both at home and abroad, and the additional COVIDrelated workload were major factors in our decisions.

We were encouraged by the number of people willing to travel again, but conditions were far from normal. Our teams were challenged by mask mandates, ever-changing, country-specific COVID protocols, pre- and post-travel COVID tests, daily symptom tracking, and social distancing requirements.

In the midst of a global pandemic,

439 people stepped up to the challenge, served with open hearts and hands, and saw how God was working around the world in spite of the circumstances. They filled

36 journey teams and served alongside 10 of our global partners.

Each global(x) journey is a unique, eye-opening experience that not only positively impacts those we serve, but also our own faith journeys. Whether it’s exploring a new culture, offering hope to others, creating connections, or working alongside a community, we see how God is working through us and in us.

They provide a great reminder that God is not just at work at home, but all over the world, and we are more alike than we are different. Our teams may return emotionally and physically exhausted but spiritually recharged.

Impact: Long-Term Missionaries Global(x) guides, prepares, equips, and encourages 27 long-term missionaries as they inspire people to follow Jesus wherever they serve around the world. Each of our missionaries has committed to at least two years of international service, a journey that requires extensive preparation. Global(x) supports them through decision-making, coaching, counseling, resilience training, personal assessments, goals and expectations setting, prayer, financial support, and more. We help ensure they’re well prepared and supported before, during, and after their time in the mission field.
