ZION PARK DISTRICT

LIABILITY

Zion Park District was founded in 1946. The Illinois Legislature has given Zion Park District the particular responsibility of providing and maintaining open space, and for offering recreational facilities and programs for your enjoyment and use. Approximately six percent of your tax bill represents the park district portion.

Zion Park District recommends that anyone enrolled in any program, sport or other activity or anyone who uses a park or facility provide their own insurance coverage through their own family insurance program. Zion Park District assumes no responsibility for personal injuries or loss of personal belongings while using Park District facilities or parks.

OUR PURPOSE Whether it’s by offering wholesome programs, activities and special events, by providing enjoyable facilities or by preserving the aesthetic beauty of our community, the sole purpose of Zion Park District is the enrichment of lives.

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Your Park District Board consists of five elected commissioners.

Each commissioner is elected for a six year term. Once every two years, you choose the person to represent you on the Park Board. The next election will be held in April, 2021. Board meetings are held at the Zion Park District Leisure Center on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm.

Board meetings may be held virtually to follow social distancing recommendations as needed.

BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM

66th EASTER EGG DRIVE THRU The Easter bunny will be delivering 10,000 eggs with toys and candy inside. We will be handing out special bags as a drive through event to keep it safe for everyone. The Easter Bunny will be there waving to all that come by. We appreciate the community support over the last 60 plus years from local businesses.

Preschool

VIRTUAL PRESCHOOL

PRESCHOOL (AGES 3-5)

We will be joining with Play to Learn Preschool an online themebased program which offers 5 days a week virtual learning for 10 weeks. Each week’s theme will include a daily 30-minute video with an interactive song, story or poem, lesson about the thematic topic, and game focused on cognitive skills such as letter recognition. As well as an after “class” enrichment pack with printable worksheets and ways to extend play and learning.

This program is a special place for your child to interact with children their own age. We carefully design every activity to expand your child's imagination and encourage lifelong positive values.

This class will provide a variety of recreational activities including games, crafts, music, story time and special trips. Children must be able to use the restroom independently by the first day of class.

Face masks must be worn at all times.

We have chosen this program to allow your families to have flexibility with the program at a time that is convenient for your schedule. You will have access to all the videos offered once they have posted through May 29, 2021. Along with Play to Learn Preschool, our Preschool Teacher will lead a weekly class meeting on Zoom. This will allow us to connect with your child and reinforce the learning for the weekly theme. As part of the virtual learning we will print all the weekly enrichment packets.

Once you register for the virtual learning, you will receive a more detailed schedule that will include the zoom meetings, packet pickup as well as the coupon code to redeem and setup your Play to Learn Winter Preschool Log in.

We have a 10-participant maximum for registration, after the first 10 spots are filled you will be placed on a waitlist until we meet another ten participants.

PRESCHOOL PAYMENT SCHEDULE Payment Schedule: The first month fee is due upon registration.

The monthly payment is due on or before the 1st of each month.

You may prepay for as many months as you wish. We do not prorate days missed from the program for unexpected absences or a reduction in days. If the monthly payment is not paid on or before the first of the month, a $10 late fee will be charged. Spring Break Camp Grades K-6th

Pack a lunch/drink for five days of fun! Some of the activities planned will include sports, games, gym time, crafts and making special treats in the kitchen. Face masks must be worn at all times.

Youth Recreation PARENT & ME DANCE

BATON TWIRLING & POMS

This class is designed for the young dancer starting out and will allow them to express themselves through creative movement.

Basic movement skills and rhythm, will be taught to enhance fine and gross motor skills, cultivate imagination creativity and social development in a caring environment. Parents will join with their child to help manage social distancing. Only one parent and child can attend this class. No spectators allowed. Face mask must be worn at all times.

Learn the basics of baton twirling in the beginner class and then work your way into the Razzle Dazzles baton teams and corps.

All twirlers will be given an opportunity to march in local parades, perform in shows and attend competitions. Baton twirling develops coordination and confidence. Zion Park District offers a wide variety of classes for each group and level. Participants will also be taught pom routines. Your child will be measured for a baton on the first day of class if needed.

Our dance program is designed to emphasize basic dance fundamentals, rhythm and movement. They will learn listening skills along with boosting their self–esteem. Video Gaming Club is an opportunity for students to socialize and have fun together based on their hobby of playing video games.

HOCKEY ACADEMY – LEARN TO SKATE The Hockey Academy focuses on developing the players skating and general hockey skills. This is a feeder program for the Patriots and Vipers Teams. Pre-Hockey Team programs are tailored to teach the skills needed to play hockey. Registration is always open and you can sign up anytime! Helmet and hockey skates are required for this class. Rental equipment available on site. Skates can be rented at RecPlex for $3 per session or 10 rental punch for $10.

Little League Volunteer Coaches Are Needed: All Coaches must complete a volunteer application and be interviewed. Attendance at two coaching clinics, set up by the Zion Park District, is required.

There also will be a coaches training session that all coaches will need to attend in order to coach (date and times to be announced).

Umpire Information If you have an interest in umpiring this summer, call the park district at 847-746-5500. Umpires and officials are needed for Little League and Pony League. Attention: A certified umpire means more pay per game!!!

PONY LEAGUE BASEBALL - AGES 13-14 This program is for youth, ages 13-14. Game days and times may vary due to diamond availability. We play teams in Beach Park, Winthrop Harbor, Waukegan, and North Chicago. We play each team twice and there are playoff games at the end of the season.

Please bring a glove. A copy of a birth certificate is required at time of registration. Coaches are needed!

Little League Baseball is a great experience for boys and girls, ages 6 thru 12. This program is run with a strong emphasis on fun and participation. We want kids to enjoy the game and to be part of the fun that comes with playing baseball. Players will be notified by May 1, 2021 by their coach or the Park District to let them know what team they are on. Practices may begin the week of May 3, 2021. Games begin May 22, 2021. Most teams play 10-12 games.

Adult Recreation DOG OBEDIENCE Basic dog obedience training with lots of praise; results in a good working, happy and reliable dog. You’ll teach your dog basic commands; heel, sit, stay, down and come. Dogs should be 8 weeks to 6 months for the puppy class and 7 months and older for beginner class. Do not bring your dog to the first class. Please bring a copy of your dog’s shot record. Face masks must be worn at all times.

DOG AGILITY – OPEN COURSE Dog agility is a great way to keep your pet happy, healthy and smart.

This open course is great for all levels. It’s a fun, creative way to add weekly exercise into your routine and improve fitness for you and your dog. The supervisor will contact you to schedule your 30 minute session on the agility course. This time is NOT class or instructor-lead. Open course provides an opportunity for you to work on skill or to spend time interacting with your pet on your own.

Note: All open course sessions must be completed by 4/29/ 2021. You may sign-up for as many sessions as you like.

OIL PAINTING This is an adult class for beginning or advanced. You will create a painting from a picture or photo of a landscape or still life working with oils and/or acrylics. SPANISH FOR ADULTS - VIRTUAL Learn Spanish from the safety and comfort of your own home via the interactive Zoom platform. You will learn conversational Spanish that you can immediately begin using. This class is taught live by a language in Action, Inc. instructor. Zoom login information will be emailed to participants before the first class.

STEPPERS DANCE Stepping is a complex performance dance that incorporates folk traditions with popular culture dance and movements. The class will be taught by instructors who have 10+ years in teaching dance.

SPORTS ARENA The sports arena houses a 1/10 mile, three lane walking track as well as two full basketball courts and 4 full volleyball courts. We offer multi-use activities.

WORKOUT GUIDELINES From the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Restore Illinois Plan • Members will be required to wear face mask while inside the facility common areas (lobby, hallway, and restrooms).

• Members will need to arrive at the facility in workout attire with personal water bottle.

• Equipment available for use by members will be separated 6 feet apart when possible.

• Some machines and/or equipment will be closed to create social distance between members.

• Members must enter through the lower level north doors.

• Members will be required to clean equipment using disinfecting wipes BEFORE and AFTER each use.

• Hand sanitizer will be available.

• Fitness center will be marked to identify specific areas of use: aerobic, free weight, circuit and individual equipment.

• Members must follow social distancing of 6 ft.

• If specific machines are not 6 feet apart member must wait their turn before proceeding.

• Supervisor will monitor fitness areas and enforce social distancing guidelines.

FITNESS STUDIO CAPACITY • Capacity of the fitness studio will be 20 patrons at one time.

• If the capacity of the Fitness Studio is met, members will be required to wait outside until a space becomes available.

The Fitness Studio is equipped with a large selection of cardio, plated machines, and free weight equipment. There are mirrored walls and flooring to handle the load. The plated machines offer multi-joint and multi-plane movements.

Weight stacks are located for optimal access while in the exercise position. Clearly visible and easy to read instructions make the area approachable for any level user from novice to advanced. Cardio options include Star Trac treadmills, recumbent and upright bikes, Cybex Arc Trainer, and Octane Lateral X Elliptical. The newest addition is the First Degree Fitness Fluid Water Rowing Machine, it’s the closest thing to actual on-water rowing available and you will love it! Must be 16 or older to enter the Fitness Studio. Youth 16 and 17 years old must have a signed waiver with parent signature.

• Equipment available for use by members will be separated 6 feet apart.

• Some machines and/or equipment will be closed to create social distance between members.

Special Recreation THE SPECIAL RECREATION SERVICES OF NORTHERN LAKE COUNTY The Zion Park District in association with the Lindenhurst Park District, Round Lake Park District and Waukegan Park District have formed the Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County.

As an extension of the Park Districts, SRSNLC will provide a diverse range of year round recreational activities to enable the residents with disabilities, of the Zion community, as well as member communities, to experience active, healthy, and playful lifestyles.

Shiloh Park Golf Course

SHILOH PARK GOLF COURSE is located at the corner of 23rd St. & Bethesda Blvd. A par 35, 2,900 yard, nine hole golf course. The course offers a variety of special events and season memberships.

Events are scheduled throughout the season beginning with the St. Pat’s Golf Tournament in March and ending with our Annual Gobbler Golf Tournament in November.

SHEPHERD’S CROOK GOLF COURSE is an 18 hole championship course, located on Green Bay Road, 1/2 mile south of Russell Road.

The clubhouse is available for golf outings, as well as private parties.

The course features wide bent grass fairways and large undulating greens. The design fits naturally to the terrain and feels like it has always been part of the landscape. The fairways are separated with berms of native prairie grasses, with a few water hazards and natural wetland areas to make every golfer a little cautious.

Registration 4 EASY WAYS TO REGISTER ONLINE 24/7 registration at ZionParkDistrict.com. Individuals & families registering for passes, programs, or events MUST have a Community Pass Household Account. Previous household accounts are no longer active. Once a family account has been created, you will have the ability to register & pay online with a credit card.

How to Create a Family Account 1. Go to ZionParkDistrict.com and click on “Online Registration”.

2. From the Zion Park District Community Pass login homepage click on the “Create an Account” tab.

3. On the next page complete the “Account Creation” fields and click on “Create” at the bottom of the page.

4. You must have a valid email address to create a family account. Your address should include North, South, East, West (if applicable) as well as Street, Lane, Court, Avenue etc., in order for the system to recognize your address.

5. On the next page you will see the Community Pass Privacy Statement. After reading, click ‘Accept.’ Then click ‘Finish.’

6. Please save your login and password for future use. When creating your account, add all family members now. Please note that only one account per family is permitted.

NON-RESIDENT INFORMATION Non-residents are welcome to participate in Zion Park District programs and activities. Many of these programs require that a non-resident pay an additional out-of-district fee. The nonresident fee options are listed below.

1. Single program fee – This is an additional fee paid per program. The amount varies with each program. Check individual program listings.

2. Pass fee – This is an additional fee paid when a season pass is purchased. The amount varies according to the type of pass purchased. These fees are listed next to the pass prices.

Often times a question arises as to who is a resident of the Park District.

A resident must live within the boundaries of Zion Park District. It’s sometimes easy to confuse residency with a Zion mailing address. Many people in the area surrounding Zion have a five-digit Zion mailing address.

These five-digit addresses are located in the county and are not within the boundaries of Zion Park District. A valid drivers license or state ID, current utility or tax bill, mortgage or lease documents, or voter registration card will help to establish your residency. The park district staff will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding residency.

RESIDENT INFORMATION Residents of the Zion Park District can acquire a Resident ID card that provides them with lower rates at Shepherd’s Crook & Shiloh Park Golf Courses, Port Shiloh Pool, as well as other park district programs and services. The Resident ID card was designed to give Zion Park District residents preferential treatment over non-residents who don’t currently support the park district through tax dollars. Each card is valid for one year and is free. In order to receive a resident card, applicants must complete the Resident ID form and supply a current photo ID (driver’s license or state ID), which will be used to verify residency.

Total Fees ZION PARK DISTRICT WAIVER AND RELEASE The Zion Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participant’s safety.

However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the below listed programs/activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and or skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

WARNING OF RISK Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandable, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers, and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Zion Park District to guarantee absolute safety.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the below identified programs/activities, you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with said programs/activities (including transportation services/vehicle operation, when provided). I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participate in these programs/activities, and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in these programs activities against the Zion Park District including its officials, agents, volunteers and employees (hereinafter collectively referred as “District”). I do hereby fully release and forever discharge the Zion Park District from any and all claims for injuries, damages, or loss that my minor child/ward or I may have or which may accrue to me or my minor child/ward and arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with these programs/activities. I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning of risk, assumption of risk and waiver and release of all claims. If registering on-line or via fax, your on-line or facsimile signature shall substitute for and have the same legal effect as an original form signature. I hereby authorize and give my consent to the Zion Park District to photograph/video my child (or me), and without limitation, to use such photographs/videos in connection with promoting and advertising the services, programs and facilities of the Zion Park District, including, but not limited to its website, Facebook page, promotional materials, brochures, fliers and other publications without consideration of any kind.
