ZION PARK DISTRICT Zion Park District was founded in 1946. The Illinois Legislature has given Zion Park District the particular responsibility of providing and maintaining open space, and for offering recreational facilities and programs for your enjoyment and use. Approximately six percent of your tax bill represents the park district portion.

OUR PURPOSE Whether it’s by offering wholesome programs, activities and special events, by providing enjoyable facilities or by preserving the aesthetic beauty of our community, the sole purpose of Zion Park District is the enrichment of lives.

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Your Park District Board consists of five elected commissioners.

Each commissioner is elected for a six year term. Once every two years, you choose the person to represent you on the Park Board. The next election will be held in April, 2021. Board meetings are held at the Zion Park District Leisure Center on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm.

Zion Park District General Information SHELTER RESERVATIONS Reservations are accepted for any shelter beginning January 2 of that year for use May 1–October 1. Shelter fees are non-refundable.

FACILITY RESERVATIONS Reservations must be made in person at the Leisure Center office and facility use agreement completed at least two weeks prior to the rental date. Deposit (see below) must accompany reservation for your rental to be secured. Deposits may be paid at the Leisure Center office by cash, check or credit card. Personal checks will not be accepted less then two weeks prior to the reservation date.

ROOM RENTALS Zion Park District has many different facilities available for rentals for your group. If your are planning a family gathering, wedding, or any special event, call 847-746-5500.

GENERAL INFORMATION • • • • • • • •

All facility rental fees are due two weeks prior to reservation.

Alcohol is not permitted in any facility.

Smoking is not permitted in any facility.

A Supervisor is present throughout the length of the rental.

Damage to the facility will result in the loss of deposit.

Hours of reservation must include set-up and clean up time.

All areas of use must be left in the original condition.

Fog machines are not allowed.

ROOM RENTAL DEPOSIT POLICY A deposit of 30% of the total rental fee for all rentals will be required at the time of reservation, with a minimum $25 deposit. Deposits will be refunded after the room has been inspected for completion of clean-up usually within two weeks from rental. If the room has not been left in the condition required, the deposit will be partially or completely non-refundable.

SHEPHERD’S CROOK CLUBHOUSE Shepherd’s Crook Eden room with its picturesque view provides an elegant setting surrounded by floor to ceiling windows and access to the veranda. With views of the golf course and the 9th and 18th greens backing up to the clubhouse, Shepherd’s Crook Golf Course is the perfect setting for your next event. We specialize in outings, weddings, rehearsal dinners, bridal or baby showers and reunions.

Whether for business or personal entertaining, Shepherd’s Crook Golf Course would be honored to host your next special event. The Eden room will seat up to 100 guests. AFTER SCHOOL CLUB (GRADES 1ST - 3RD)

Join the ZPAC A Supervised After School Club MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS 3:00-5:30 PM

School’s out, it’s time for fun! During Zion Park After School Club (ZPAC), children participate in a variety of structured and unstructured activities. ZPAC will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays only, after full and half days of school. Zion Park After School Club registration does not include school days off.

The Zion Park After School Club is a 9 month program, available September thru May, and follows the Zion Elementary District 6 School Calendar. The total fee is broken into monthly payments. The first month fee is due on or before registration. The monthly fee is due on or before the 1st of each month. You may prepay for as many months as you wish. We do not prorate days missed from the program for unexpected absences or a reduction in days.

Transportation is not provided.

Youth Recreation PRESCHOOL DANCE & TUMBLING This class is for the young dancer starting out and will allow them to express themselves through creative movement. Basic movement skills and rhythm, along with some basic tumbling will be taught to enhance fine and gross motor skills, cultivate imagination, creativity and social development in a caring environment.

EXPLORING MUSIC THROUGH BUCKET DRUMMING This course is designed with beginners in mind. As a group, we will work to create a unique sound. In this course we will perform music as a bucket drumming ensemble, create our own beats and patterns on buckets, we will be moving and reacting to many sounds and music. This course is very loud and physically active.

All first time students will get their own set of drum sticks to keep.

There will be a performance at the end of the course. All supplies are included with the class.

BATON Learn the basics of baton twirling in the beginner class and then work your way into the Razzle Dazzles baton teams and corps.

All twirlers will be given an opportunity to march in local parades, perform in shows and attend competitions. Baton twirling develops coordination and confidence. Zion Park District offers a wide variety of classes for each group and level. Your child will be measured for a baton on the first day of class if needed.

Join us for a winter wonderland in song. We will be learning how to sing as a choir. You do not need any musical experience to join. We have condensed a Youth Fitness program into a 6-week session with a Certified Personal Trainer. This program gives kids and teens the knowledge and skills to develop age-appropriate exercises in a fun, positive atmosphere. This class improves their overall health by building endurance and increasing their physical strength.

NERF COMBAT We will transform the gym into an arena for the kids to battle and play fun competitive games. Each week we will have skill challenges where the kids will get to practice and compete in different aspects of Nerf Combat, and then we will have an all-out battle to end out each week. Nerf has many benefits including teamwork, exercise, disciplined fun and learning to balance competition with good sportsmanship. Each child MUST have eye protection to participate. They may bring their own guns, but we will provide the “ammo” in order to prevent losing their equipment.

YOUTH BASKETBALL (K-12th GRADE) Girls and boys K through 12th grade are invited to participate. Our staff consists of former high school and college basketball players.

Teams will be formed, practices are held once a week and games will be played on Saturdays. Uniforms are provided. There will be a banquet and trophy presentation at the end of the season.

Volunteer coaches are needed. Both males and females are welcome. Note: All volunteer coaches must be available to practice once a week, no exceptions. There will be a mandatory coaches organizational meeting, on Thurs, Oct. 24 at 7:30 pm, at the Hermon Park Community Center, 2700 29th Street. Any questions contact David B. HOCKEY ACADEMY – LEARN TO SKATE The Hockey Academy focuses on developing the players skating and general hockey skills. This is a feeder program for the Patriots and Vipers Teams. Pre-Hockey Team programs are tailored to teach the skills needed to play hockey. Registration is always open and you can sign up anytime! ZION PARK DISTRICT FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE

NEW

The Zion Park District has partnered with the NFL Flag Football program. Our league provides opportunities for boys and girls to enjoy playing a team sport. Players benefit by being physically active through non-contact practices and games while learning the fundamentals of football and lessons in both teamwork and sportsmanship. Our goal is to provide the best youth flag football experience possible. We are committed to providing your child with a fun and positive environment where your young athlete can learn, develop and improve their flag football skills in a friendly competitive atmosphere.

Practices may begin August 26, 2019 upon the discretion of each volunteer coach.

Adult Recreation TAE-KWON-DO/HAPKIDO

DOG OBEDIENCE Basic dog obedience training with lots of praise; results in a good working, happy and reliable dog. You’ll teach your dog basic commands: heel, sit, stay, down and come. Dogs should be 8 weeks to 6 months for the puppy class and 7 months and older for beginner class. Do not bring your dog to the first class. Please bring a copy of your dog’s shot record.

DOG AGILITY – OPEN COURSE Dog agility is a great way to keep your pet happy, healthy and smart.

This open course is great for all levels. It’s a fun, creative way to add weekly exercise into your routine and improve fitness for you and your dog. The supervisor will contact you to schedule your 30 minute session on the agility course. This time is NOT class or instructor-lead. Open course provides an opportunity for you to work on skill or to spend time interacting with our pet on your own.

CHILD CARE Our child care is run by appointment only. If you would like to use child care in the morning please contact the registration desk at 847-746-5501 by 6:00 pm the evening before. If you would like child care services in the late afternoon or evening please contact the desk by noon. We would be happy to arrange daily or weekly care during your workouts. The Fitness Studio is equipped with a large selection of cardio, plated machines, and free weight equipment. There are mirrored walls and flooring to handle the load. The plated machines offer multijoint and multi-plane movements. Weight stacks are located for optimal access while in the exercise position. Clearly visible and easy to read instructions make the area approachable for any level user from novice to advanced. Cardio options include Star Trac treadmills, recumbent and upright bikes, Cybex Arc Trainer, and Octane Lateral X Elliptical. The newest addition is the First Degree Fitness Fluid Water Rowing Machine, it’s the closest thing to actual on-water rowing available and you will love it! Must be 16 or older to enter the Fitness Studio.

Circuit Circuit training is designed to increase muscular strength and endurance, agility and coordination by performing a series of exercises using various pieces of equipment, with little rest in between exercises.

Yoga Fit YogaFit style focuses on safety, accessibility and “yoga for everybody.” YogaFit blends balance, strength, flexibility, and power in a fitness format. YogaFit is a practical, user-friendly style, which is doable by individuals of any fitness level.

H.I.I.T. /Body Weight High Intensity Interval Training involves performing intervals of highintensity body weight exercise followed by low intensity or rest. This format is designed to burn fat during class and after the workout is over, increasing resting metabolism.

Cardio, Strength, & Core This workout will help improve your cardiovascular health and increase your musculoskeletal fitness. Core stabilizers will also be targeted.

Low Impact Torch and Tighten You will torch major calories and burn fat while tightening and toning your muscles with this low impact, total body, easy to follow workout.

Have fun and feel great using a variety of equipment such as free weights, medicine and stability balls, and resistance bands.

Kiddie Korners & Kindergarten Kapers PRESCHOOL PAYMENT SCHEDULE The preschool program is 9 months from September to May. The total fee is broken into monthly payments.

The first month fee is due on or before registration. The monthly fee is due on or before the 1st of each month. You may prepay for as many months as you wish. We do not prorate days missed from the program for unexpected absences or a reduction in days. If the monthly fee is not paid on or before the first of the month, a $10 late fee will be charged.

Special Recreation THE SPECIAL RECREATION SERVICES OF NORTHERN LAKE COUNTY The Zion Park District in association with the Lindenhurst Park District, Round Lake Park District and Waukegan Park District have formed the Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County.

As an extension of the Park Districts, SRSNLC will provide a diverse range of year round recreational activities to enable the residents with disabilities, of the Zion community, as well as member communities, to experience active, healthy, and playful lifestyles.

Shiloh Park Golf Course

SHILOH PARK GOLF COURSE is located at the corner of 23rd St. & Bethesda Blvd. A par 35, 2,900 yard, nine hole golf course. The course offers a variety of special events and season memberships.

Events are scheduled throughout the season beginning with the St. Pat’s Golf Tournament in March and ending with our Annual Gobbler Golf Tournament in November.

Dress Code: Shoes and shirt must be worn at all times. Shiloh Park Golf Course is a soft spike facility. Soft spikes or tennis shoes only.

Shepherd’s Crook Golf Course SHEPHERD’S CROOK GOLF COURSE is an 18 hole championship course, located on Green Bay Road, 1/2 mile south of Russell Road.

The course features wide bent grass fairways and large undulating greens. The design fits naturally to the terrain and feels like it has always been part of the landscape. The fairways are separated with berms of native prairie grasses, with a few water hazards and natural wetland areas to make every golfer a little cautious.

The clubhouse is available for golf outings, as well as private parties.

Special Events POTAWATOMI TRAILS POW WOW–AUG 24-25 The Potawatomi Trails Pow-Wow, the only event of its kind in this area, is a celebration of Native-American heritage. WOMEN’S SAFETY SEMINAR

GO ZION–AUGUST 31

Zion Police Department and Zion Park District present this seminar which educates women on how to best avoid becoming a victim of a violent assault. Realistic tactics and techniques to escape such an assault are taught. Zion Police Department will present a powerful program to help you be aware, with practical hands-on self defense moves. All participants will receive a personal whistle. Preregistration is required.

OUTDOOR FAMILY CONCERT AND FIREWORKS – SEPTEMBER 1 Lake County Symphony Orchestra, in conjunction with the Jubilee Days Festival, will perform at the Zion Band Shell in a concert entitled “Broadway and Hollywood Blockbusters.” Hear your favorite music from theater and movies from Wicked to Star Wars in a concert the whole family can enjoy. You’ll instantly recognize all of the selections played during what promises to be a very enjoyable evening. Lake County Symphony Orchestra always presents a lively family friendly concert to help Zion celebrate Labor Day weekend. The concert is at 6:30 pm followed by annual Jubilee Days fireworks display. NON-RESIDENT INFORMATION Non-residents are welcome to participate in Zion Park District programs and activities. Many of these programs require that a non-resident pay an additional out-of-district fee. The nonresident fee options are listed below.

1. Single program fee – This is an additional fee paid per program. The amount varies with each program. Check individual program listings.

2. Pass fee – This is an additional fee paid when a season pass is purchased. The amount varies according to the type of pass purchased. These fees are listed next to the pass prices.

Often times a question arises as to who is a resident of the Park District.

A resident must live within the boundaries of Zion Park District. It’s sometimes easy to confuse residency with a Zion mailing address. Many people in the area surrounding Zion have a five-digit Zion mailing address.

These five-digit addresses are located in the county and are not within the boundaries of Zion Park District. A valid drivers license or state ID, current utility or tax bill, mortgage or lease documents, or voter registration card will help to establish your residency. The park district staff will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding residency.

RESIDENT INFORMATION Residents of the Zion Park District can acquire a Resident ID card that provides them with lower rates at Shepherd’s Crook & Shiloh Park Golf Courses, Port Shiloh Pool, as well as other park district programs and services. The Resident ID card was designed to give Zion Park District residents preferential treatment over non-residents who don’t currently support the park district through tax dollars. Each card is valid for one year and is free. In order to receive a resident card, applicants must complete the Resident ID form and supply a current photo ID (driver’s license or state ID), which will be used to verify residency.

Total Fees ZION PARK DISTRICT WAIVER AND RELEASE The Zion Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participant’s safety.

However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the below listed programs/activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and or skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

WARNING OF RISK Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandable, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers, and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Zion Park District to guarantee absolute safety.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the below identified programs/activities, you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with said programs/activities (including transportation services/vehicle operation, when provided).
