ABOUT AUGUSTANA

About Augustana College Founded in 1860, Augustana is a selective, residential, comprehensive college of the Lutheran Church. The College is committed to enriching lives and fostering development by combining a foundation in the liberal arts with professional skill and advanced study. With nearly 1,850 students from 26 states and 30 countries, Augustana is ranked the No. 6 baccalaureate college in the nation for its efforts to advance social mobility, research and service by Washington Monthly. We’re proud to be featured among 650 of “America’s Top Colleges” by Forbes and to be named a “Best Midwestern College” by the Princeton Review and a “Best Buy” by U.S. News & World Report. Augustana is also identified as one of "440 Great Colleges for Top Students" by Peterson’s Guide and among “America’s top 100 outstanding but under-appreciated colleges” by Harvard Schmarvard. In 2010, we were named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Role for supporting volunteerism, service-learning and civic engagement and the Templeton Guide includes the College among those that inspire students to lead ethical and civicminded lives. We’re proud to say that the average ACT of our entering class is 25, one of the highest averages of any college or university in the region. Nearly 90 percent of our students come from South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. Eleven percent are alumni legacies. Location Augustana is located in Sioux Falls, S.D., the largest city in South Dakota with a population of more than 160,000. The city’s dynamic, robust business environment offers our students internship opportunities in the areas of agribusiness, biotechnology, financial services, health care, manufacturing, and tourism. Sioux Falls is also home to the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Sciences, the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, more than 500 restaurants, 70 parks and recreation areas, including a 20mile paved bike trail, and four minor league sports teams. A Global Perspective At Augustana, we believe that in order to learn about the world, you have to see it. Taste it. Live it. It’s why we’re committed to providing students with a global perspective. Nearly half of our students travel abroad during their college careers and, our campus is home to students from 30 countries. The Academic Program At the heart of the Augustana experience is a team of renowned, devoted professors who are passionately committed to engage the intellect and inspire the imagination. More than 80 percent of our full-time tenured and tenure-track professors hold the highest degrees in their fields. Augustana offers more than 50 majors and pre-professional specializations within a 4-1-4 academic year. Choice local internships, study abroad programs and local and national undergraduate research opportunities supplement the curriculum. Civitas, the College’s honors program, provides an exceptionally rigorous academic experience and bridges disciplines with an exploration of the values associated with leading a responsible life.

Performing, Visual and Literary Arts At Augustana, we believe that art stirs the soul, enriches the mind and empowers the heart – it’s why the performing, literary and visual arts are cornerstone to our culture. We’re proud to say that the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra got its start on our campus in 1922. With the addition of the 24,000-square foot Center for Visual Arts, Augustana continues to be a center for the visual arts in southeastern South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota. Approximately 24 percent of Augustana students are involved in music ensembles, theatre productions and art exhibitions on campus and around the globe. In January 2011, 80 student members of the Augustana Band toured Egypt and in October 2012, the Augustana Orchestra will perform with the legendary rock band Kansas. Well-attended exhibitions featuring professional and student artists are held each year in the new Eide/Dalrymple Gallery. The Theatre Department produces main stage shows each year, including a musical and Vikings Varieties, Augustana’s live homecoming entertainment. In addition, Augustana is proud to partner with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra to bring national and international string players to Sioux Falls through the Augustana Faculty String Quartet. Undergraduate Research Augustana provides unmatched opportunities for our undergraduate students to participate in cutting edge scientific and medical research projects on campus and in laboratories and study tanks throughout the U.S. and overseas. The Outlook for Graduates Some 25 percent of Augustana’s graduating class attends graduate and professional school; their medical school acceptance rate is well above the national average.. In 2010, 94 percent of graduating seniors seeking employment found positions related to their field of study within eight months of graduation. AUGUSTANA ADMINISTRATION ROB

OLIVER

PRESIDENT

South Dakota, 1975

When the board of trustees announced its decision to hire Robert C. Oliver as Augustana's 23rd president, the campus and Sioux Falls communities' response was predictably and overwhelmingly positive. Oliver was no stranger to either community, and his leadership and passion for life and learning are hallmarks of his career. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Oliver attended public schools and entered the University of South Dakota in 1971. He obtained a bachelor’s in economics in 1975 and, while employed by Norwest Bank in Rapid City, began coursework to receive his master’s of business administration in 1977.

As Norwest Bank completed its transition to becoming Wells Fargo & Co., Oliver continued his progression through a variety of positions with the firm. He has experience as a personal banker and commercial banker and became manager of the business banking department in Sioux Falls. In 1987, Oliver was named president of the Sioux Falls market banks. He expanded the operations of the then Norwest Bank franchise in Sioux Falls to include 16 locations. In 1999, he was named southeast district president, responsible for 27 banking locations in 13 communities in southeast South Dakota and southwest Minnesota.

Oliver’s "free time" during his years at the bank included coursework at The Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He taught classes for the USD School of Business, both in the undergraduate and MBA programs in Sioux Falls. He also taught for the American Institute of Banking and the Institute for Financial Education.

Believing that service to one's community is as important as one's career, Oliver became well-known throughout the area as a model board member and volunteer. His area involvement has included the Avera McKennan Hospital Board of Trustees (chair), Augustana Board of Regents (former chair), Board of Directors of Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota (member), Communication Services for the Deaf (board member), Sioux Empire United Way Board (former chair) and Volunteers of America (board member). Additionally, Oliver has served Forward Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Development Foundation, Main Street Sioux Falls, YMCA, Threshold Youth Services, the Civic Fine Arts Center and Sioux Empire Red Cross. He is a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Oliver retired from banking in 2004 and joined the Augustana faculty as an associate professor and chair of the department of business administration. While his tenure within the department was brief, his dedication to students and excellence in the classroom were soon well-known. DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS Augustana’s athletic department has flourished under the direction of Bill Gross.

Augustana, 1973

From facilities to execution on the playing field, Augustana has gained national recognition under Gross’ guidance. The Vikings began competition in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2008 and in just three seasons claimed the U.S. Bank/NSIC All-Sports Championship. This award recognizes the NSIC program with the most success each year. In 2010-11, the Vikings won seven NSIC championships and the football team shared a division title. Five Augustana teams competed for NCAA championships. In addition, the Vikings checked in at No. 3 in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, a national all-sports ranking of schools in NCAA Division II.

Augustana sponsors 18 athletic programs – nine each for men and women. In 2010-11, there were 362 student-athletes listed on the various Viking rosters.

Gross begins his 33rd year as a member of the Augustana athletic staff in 2011-12. He served as assistant men’s basketball coach from 1979 to 1983 and head men’s basketball coach from 1983 to 1992. He chaired the health, physical education and recreation department from 1995 to 2005. After his appointment in 1986, Gross is now in his 26th year as Augustana’s athletic director.

Under Gross’ leadership, Augustana now plays the majority of its home contests on campus. He has been directly involved in fundraising efforts and planning of the Elmen Center (1989) and its addition (2002); Bowden Field for softball (1991); Ronken Field for baseball (1993); Hall Football Complex and Sanford Gymnasium (2006); Kirkeby-Over Stadium (2009); Morstad Field (2009); and the Huether Tennis Centre (2009). He has also supervised and raised funds for the campus marquee (2002), the installation of the Pulastic surface in the Elmen Center (2005), and the Elmen Center bleacher renovations (2010). Since 2006, Gross has been instrumental in cultivating donors to raise more than $15 million in support of new and renovated athletic facilities on campus. In terms of annual fundraising, Gross has played a significant role in the growth of the 800-member Augustana Athletic Club. He has been directly involved in the formation and increased support generated by the All-American Team, Augustana’s corporate sponsorship program. The organization has grown to 43 members, who provide more than $500,000 in annual support for Augustana athletics.

In 2004, Gross created the 30-minute promotional “Augustana Sportscene” television program. The weekly production, which Gross hosts, begins its eighth season in 2011-12 and is now reaching more than 1,000 communities in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois on Midco Sports Network and the Mediacom cable system. The program is also viewed worldwide at GoAugie.com. In 2009, Gross negotiated a new contract with Results Radio/Cumulus Media to carry all Augustana women’s basketball games on KXRB-AM 1000.

In his nine seasons as head men’s basketball coach, Gross’ teams posted a 154-103 record and registered nine winning seasons. His 1988-89 squad won the North Central Conference championship and compiled an overall record of 23-7 (a school record at the time). His Vikings also advanced to the NCAA tournament in 1986, 1988 and 1989. A native of Hayfield, Minn., Gross played basketball at Augustana from 1969 to 1973. He earned All-North Central Conference recognition three years. After receiving his degree, Gross played one year of professional basketball in Europe. He then taught and coached at the high school level in Mitchell, S.D., and Marshall, Minn., before returning to Augustana in 1979. He earned his master’s degree in physical education from the University of South Dakota in 1979. Gross and his wife, Sheree, are the parents of three children: Jennie, Chris, and Sara.

SEASON OUTLOOK

PRESEASON PICKS CREATE HIGH EXPECATIONS FOR 2011-12 VIKINGS by Bruce Conley, Sports Information Assistant

Lofty preseason team and individual rankings have expectations running high for the 201112 Augustana men’s basketball team.

The Vikings are ranked eighth by the Sporting News in its 2011-12 Division II preseason top10 poll. The publication tabs guards Cody Schilling (Ellsworth, Minn.) and Cameron McCaffrey (Portland, Ore.) as second team and honorable mention preseason All-America choices, respectively. Since Tom Billeter took the reins in 2003, the Augustana men’s program has seen a spike in national exposure. The Vikings have registered five consecutive winning seasons and their overall record for the past four years is 85-35. The Vikings’ 24-7 record in 2009-10 set a school standard for wins in a single season.

In the last four years, the Vikings have made three NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the Central Region championship game in 2009 and 2010. After three seasons in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Augustana owns a 4319 record and finished third overall in 2009-10 and 2010-11. Schilling capped his junior year as the Vikings’ leading scorer (21.1points per game). His first-team selections included the NSIC, All-Central Region, and NABA All-Central District. He has started 89 straight games and currently ranks ninth on the Vikings’ career scoring list with 1,391 points.

McCaffrey had a sensational sophomore season, shooting 43.2 percent from the field and averaging 19.0 points a game. He was chosen to the All-NSIC first team and earned secondteam recognition on both the Daktronics All-Central Region and NABA All-Central District teams. He has accumulated 912 points in his first two seasons with the Vikings.

Schilling and McCaffrey are unquestionably the power train that will drive the Vikings. But, Augustana also has solid front line players back in Derrick DeZeeuw (Brandon, S.D.), Leif Nomeland (Osakis, Minn.), Eric Jorgensen (Sioux City, Iowa), Yuriy Malashenko (Jordan, Minn.), and Brennan Olson (Luck, Wis.).

Cody Schilling (above) and Cameron McCaffrey (below) make up one of the most explosive tandems in the NSIC.

When team awards were handed out at the end of the 2010-11season, Nomeland was named most improved and DeZeeuw the top rebounder.

Nomeland played in all 27 games and had 17 starts in 2010-11. He averaged 9.7 points and 4.4 rebounds a game. DeZeeuw started all 27 games, led the team in blocks (17), and averaged 6.2 points and 6.7 rebounds. Jorgensen started five games last year and appeared in 20. He averaged 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds. Olson had five starts in 2010-11 and played in 20 games. Malashenko appeared in all 27 games a year ago as a true freshman. Evan Pierce (Houston, Texas) joined the team for the second semester last season but did not suit up. He transferred to Augustana from Wagner (N.Y.). This year’s 16-man roster includes four additional transfers:

> Drae Murray (Huntsville, Texas) spent three seasons at Division I Sam Houston State and is the projected starter at point guard. Murray started 26 games for the Bearkats (18-13) a year ago, averaging 5.8 points, 4.7 assists, and 2.5 rebounds. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

> Nick Bennett (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) was the third leading scorer last year for Antelope Valley College (Calif.) at 9.7 points a game. The Marauders were 20-10. > David Fritsch (Stewartville, Minn.) helped Rochester Community and Technical College (Minn.) to a 55-9 record in his two seasons. Last year he averaged 12 points and 2.5 rebounds. > Scotty Norwood (El Paso, Texas) played in 55 games in two seasons with the Odessa College (Texas) Wranglers.

Dajon Newell (Lakeville, Minn.), a redshirt freshman, also plays football and will join the basketball team at the end of the season. Making their Augustana debuts are freshmen Vaughn Thada (Owatonna, Minn.), Alex Richter (Lakeville, Minn.) and Ben Reker (Appleton, Wis.). AUGUSTANA MEN’S BASKETBALL : : 9

TOM BILLETER Head Coach :: Ninth Season Illinois, 1983

Tom Billeter has recharged the Augustana men’s basketball program while elevating the enthusiasm of the Viking faithful.

Billeter’s teams have produced winning records each of the last five seasons, including an 18-9 mark in 2010-11. Augustana has been to the NCAA Tournament three of the last four seasons.

Augustana’s overall record for the past five seasons is 101-47, including a three-year stretch of 20-plus wins culminating in a 67-26 mark.

THE BILLETER FILE

Born Feb. 12, 1961 Hometown Byron, Ill.

Family Wife - Paula Children - Michael (Lindsie), Kelsey, Kyle, Brett Education University of Illinois, 1983 Bachelor of Science Physical Education University of Arizona, 1987 Master of Science Exercise Physiology

Now in his ninth season, Billeter’s 2009-10 team set a school record for wins in a season (24). His Vikings advanced to the Central Region championship game in 2009 and 2010.

Through much of the 2009-2010 campaign the Vikings appeared in the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Division II Top-25 Poll. The Vikings have finished no lower than third place in each of their three seasons as a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Viking standouts Cody Schilling and Cameron McCaffrey were named to the 2010-11 All-NSIC first team, making Augustana one of three teams to land two players on the elite squad. Schilling was a NABC All-Central District first-team choice, while McCaffrey was named to the second team. The Daktronics All-Central Region included Schilling (first team) and McCaffrey (second team). Schilling was also a two-time choice as NSIC Player of the Week. Billeter notched his 200th career coaching win in 2009-10 and begins 2011-12 with an overall record of 224-154.

In five seasons as the head coach at North Dakota State, he compiled a 97-50 record. During his tenure, the Bison logged four consecutive 20-win seasons and earned four straight appearances in NCAA Division II Tournament play. In 1994-95 the Bison corralled a share of the North Central Conference championship with a 12-6 record. Billeter forged a 57-33 record against NCC opponents and the Bison were conference runners-up three times. Billeter graduated from Illinois in 1983 and began his coaching career at Arizona, where he worked two years (1985-1987) with legendary coach Lute Olson. The Wildcats were 23-9 in 1985-86 and won the Pac-10 title. Both seasons resulted in Arizona advancing to the NCAA tournament.

During his time at Arizona, Billeter coached Sean Elliott, Steve Kerr, Tom Tolbert, Jud Buechler and Kenny Lofton. He then moved to Rice, where he served as an assistant coach from 1987 to 1992. In 1991-92 the Owls won 20 games, the first 20-win season since 1953-54, and narrowly missed berths in the NCAA and NIT tournaments. While at Rice, Billeter coached the Owls’ star center, Brent Scott. Billeter’s 28 years in coaching includes experience beyond the shores of the United States. In 1996 he coached Team America, a squad compiled of Division-I players ages 22 and younger. His team participated in the Turgut Atakol Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey. Following his five-year run at NDSU, Billeter spent one season (1997-98) at St. John’s (N.Y.), where he served under head coach Fran Fraschilla and helped the Red Storm to a 22-10 record. Led by Felipe Lopez and Ron Artest, St. John’s advanced to the NCAA tournament.

Billeter then began a five-year run at Texas A&M under head coach Melvin Watkins. Together, they helped the Aggies gain respect in the demanding Big 12 Conference. In 2002-03 the Aggies posted a 14-14 record, only the second .500 or better season in 14 years. Again Billeter had the opportunity to coach prominent players including Bernard King and Antoine Wright. King is Texas A&M’s career scoring leader and the second all-time leading scorer in the history of the Big 12. Wright was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2002-03 and the No. 15 NBA draft pick in 2005 by the New Jersey Nets. Billeter earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Illinois in 1983 and his master's in exercise physiology from Arizona in 1987. He resides in Sioux Falls with his wife, Paula. The Billeters have four children: Mike (Lindsie), Kelsey, Kyle and Brett.

COACHING STAFF

JEFF TRUMBAUER Assistant Coach :: Third Season North Dakota State, 1998 Jeff Trumbauer is in his second stint as the top assistant coach for the Augustana men's basketball program, having served as an assistant for the Vikings for the 2003-04 season and returning to that same position for the 2010-11 campaign.

Prior to accepting the position at Augustana, Trumbauer was the head coach at Jamestown (N.D.) for six years. He has also been an assistant coach at Northern State (1998-1999), Minnesota State Moorhead (1999-2002) and Dartmouth (2002-2003).

During his tenure at Jamestown, Trumbauer turned the Jimmies into a power in the Dakota Athletic Conference. In 2008, he led JC to the DAC championship and was named the conference's coach of the year. His team went on to earn an NAIA national tournament bid in 2008. Two years later, Trumbauer guided his squad to the DAC Tournament title and a second berth in the national tournament. Trumbauer's Jimmies gained the reputation of having a potent offense. “The Augustana men’s basketball program has done a tremendous job supporting the volunteer effort of the Sioux Falls Half Marathon and Miracle 5K, which benefits the Children’s Miracle Network. The team and coaches have volunteered for the past decade, and they are so positive about helping. This event has a huge impact on our community, and we believe the Augustana men’s basketball program is an integral part of this.” - Steve Bliss Senior Exercise Specialist, Sanford Sioux Falls Half Marathon & 5K Committee Member

NORTHERN SUN INTERCOLLEGIATE CONFERENCE

NSIC BIOGRAPHY >>

From its modest origin as a six-team alliance nearly eight decades ago, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has matured into a 14-team union of upper Midwest colleges and universities to form arguably the strongest affiliation in NCAA Division II.

The NSIC can trace its roots to 1932 when six schools, including Bemidji State, Minnesota State, MSU Moorhead, St. Cloud State , Minnesota Duluth and Winona State signed on as charter members. All remain active subscribers of the league today. Southwest Minnesota State was added in 1969, followed by Northern State in 1978, Wayne State in 1998, Concordia and Minnesota, Crookston in 1999, the U-Mary and Upper Iowa in 2006, and Augustana in 2008.

MSU, SCSU and UMD later left the league to join the North Central Conference but returned to the NSIC in 2008. Minnesota-Morris and Michigan Tech were once part of the NSIC family as well. In July 2012, the NSIC will again expand with the addition of Minot State and the Sioux Falls, bringing the league to 16 members for the 2012-13 academic season.

In 1992, the NSIC became a true athletic showcase for both men and women with the merger of the traditional Northern Intercollegiate Conference (NIC) and the Northern Sun Conference (NSC), the home of women’s athletics since 1979. Before NSIC affiliates became certified for championship competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1995, its member institutions filled prominent roles in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). NIC and NSC clubs annually dispatched qualified student-athletes to national tournaments and captured several NAIA teams and individual championships. The NSIC celebrates its 80th season this year and clearly continues to make a major imprint nationally, winning nine national titles in the last six years. The WSU men claimed NCAA II Basketball Championships in 2006 and 2008 and narrowly missed a third crown, falling in a last second shot in 2007. In addition, the Warriors established a NCAA II record of 57 consecutive victories.

CU launched an ongoing streak of four consecutive NCAA II Volleyball Championships in 2007. In 2008, the Golden Bears won 37 straight matches after a season opening loss on their way to a second consecutive title and scripted a marvelous encore in 2009 with a perfect 37-0 finish, a third straight national crown and a winning streak of 74 straight matches. In 2010, the Golden Bear extendeds that win streak to 75 before dropping their second match of the season. They started 2010 with a 10-4 record before ripping off 22 straight wins on their way to their fourth straight national title.

In a most surprising run, UMD completed a perfect 15-0 season by winning the 2008 NCAA Division II Football Championship. The Bulldogs, limited to only 24 scholarships by league rule, swept a field of fully-funded teams, including top ranked Grand Valley State and No. 3 Northwest Missouri State. Two years later in 2010, the Bulldogs repeated that feat, going 15-0 again to win the national championship. The Bulldogs became the first NCAA DII football squad to win two national championships with undefeated records. MSU added more luster to the league by finishing 32-2 and claiming the 2008-09 NCAA II Women’s Basketball Championship. The Mavericks rolled to a wild 103-94 victory over Franklin Pierce to set a NCAA record for total points in the title game.

Since 2000, the NSIC has also participated in the Mineral Water Bowl. Hosted by the Quarterback Club of Excelsior Springs, Mo., the Mineral Water Bowl matches the highest-finishing teams from the NSIC and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) not selected for the NCAA Division II football playoffs. WSU defeated Missouri Western State 43-41 in triple overtime, the Warriors first-ever postseason win since 2000. In addition, NSIC student-athletes have made a major splash nationally as well, collecting a batch of individual titles. CU setter Maggie McNamara was honored as the NCAA Division II Honda Women’s Athlete of the Year, the latest NSIC representative decorated with national Player of the Year honors. The NSIC has also had three athletes awarded the NCAA Elite 88 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 88 championships. Earning the award were Kendra Huettl (MSU, Softball, 2011), Matt Braithwaite (Augustana, Cross Country, 2010) and Lauren Brown (WSU, Outdoor Track and Field, 2010).

Member schools continue to emphasize the educational, entertainment and unifying value of sports while pointing with pride to the many advantages to be gained by attending these colleges and universities. The NSIC is committed to providing rewarding experiences for its student-athletes, and while the challenges that loom are sizable, indeed, the NSIC is surely well positioned for the future.

AUGUSTANA MEN’S BASKETBALL : : 49

MEN’S BASKETBALL FACILITIES

ELMEN CENTER >>

Located at the intersection of 33rd Street and Grange Avenue, the Elmen Center opened in February 1989. It is the hub for Augustana’s athletic programs but is also the site of numerous school and community cultural gatherings. Each year the facility is host to more than 100 events. Included are Augustana men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and wrestling competitions. Music programs, youth rallies, lectures, swim meets, youth camps, clinics and high school basketball tournaments also appear on the calendar. The Elmen Center serves as the core facility for the campus recreational sports and fitness activities. The 81,000-square-foot facility is available more than 110 hours each week for a variety of recreational activities. Augustana students, staff and faculty may take advantage of a 25-yard swimming pool, two racquetball courts, the Hall Sports Forum, six locker rooms, classrooms, a high-tech training facility and a multi-purpose/wrestling room that also serves as a venue for aerobic dance and martial arts.

The 4,000-seat Hall Sports Forum features a 27,000-square-foot performance area and a state-of-the art 176-yard running track, long jump pit, batting cage and four multi-use courts. The new Robbins Pulastic SP sports floor, installed in 2004, was the first of its type in the area.

Since the summer of 2008, the Hall Sports Forum has undergone more than $315,000 in upgrades. During the summer of 2008 the basketball/volleyball playing court was repainted with the new Viking and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference logos. Courtside chairs were also refurbished to include the new Viking logo. New bleachers were installed in 2010, and the lighting was upgraded in 2011. In 2000, the Elmen Center hosted the NCAA Division II Volleyball Elite 8 national tournament. Since 1995, the Boe Forum on Public Affairs has been held in the Elmen’s Hall Sports Forum, featuring world leaders including Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev, President George H.W. Bush, Vice President Al Gore, Queen Nore of Jordan, Mexico President Vicente Fox and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

Impetus for construction of the Elmen Center was provided by the generosity of Bob and Rita Elmen, Jim and Eloise Elmen and Bill and Irene Hall. Bob Elmen graduated from Augustana in 1952 and Jim in 1960.

The Elmens and Halls all are recipients of the Tuve Award. Named for Anthony G. Tuve, Augustana’s president from 1890 to 1916, the award recognizes visionary, forward-thinking, generous individuals who have reached the level of $100,000 in charitable gift support to the College.

MEN’S BASKETBALL FACILITIES << SANFORD PRACTICE FACILITY The Sanford Practice Gymnasium opened in 2007 on the upper level of the Hall Football Complex. The structure covers 28,000 square feet and is attached to the south side of the Elmen Center.

Two regulation-size basketball courts are contained inside the Sanford Practice Gymnasium. The facility, arguably one of the best basketball practice venues in NCAA Division II, also features curtains that can separate the gym into two private courts and adjustable basketball goals that can be lowered for youth camps. The Augustana basketball offices are located outside the Sanford Practice Gymnasium.

AUGUSTANA TEAM ROOM >> Located on the first floor of the Elmen Center just below the Sanford Practice Gymnasium, the Augustana men’s basketball locker room is a lounge-type area where Viking players can relax and prepare for upcoming games and practices. Full and private shower facilities are exclusive to members of the men’s basketball team.

The Augustana men’s basketball program also uses its locker room to analyze film, study scouting reports and partake in team activities.

Each player is given ample room space to store his belongings, and the room is secured 24 hours a day. A high-definition television, complete with an XBOX 360 and Playstation 3, is mounted on the wall.

<< HALL WEIGHT ROOM Used exclusively by the Augustana football and men’s basketball programs, the Hall Weight Room was constructed in 2007 as part of the Hall Football Complex. The Hall Weight Room is located on the first floor of the Hall Football Complex. The spacious training area features state-of-the-art equipment, including eight multi-purpose platforms.

Brett Chambers, the strength and conditioning coordinator at Augustana, makes his office in the Hall Weight Room, allowing for exasy access for student-athlete training sessions.
