Torrential rains Fishing baned in batter Goa, Monsoon Goa from June 1 to knocks the door July 31 in Trawlers
Goa is an all season destination but it becomes all the more beautiful and ravishing in rains. And while pre-Monsoon rains have been lashing the state from past four days, this makes it a perfect time to tour the beautiful beaches. However, last 24 hours saw some vigorous rains battering the coastal state due to an offshore trough which was running along the West Coast from North Coastal Maharashtra to Kerala. As per Skymet Weather, now the offshore trough is expected to shift westwards and away from the coast. Thus a significant decrease in the rain activity is anticipated over Goa in the next 48 hours. However, moderate rains may prevail. Thereafter, rains will once again pick up the pace as Monsoon has already made a timely onset over Kerala on May 30, and is expected to reach Goa in 3 to 4 days.
COLVA: The 61 days fishing ban has come into force from mid-night of May 31 all along the 105 km-long coastline of Goa. Nearly 1,500 trawlers will pull their nets off the Goa's territorial waters for the entire period of the ban, similar to a ban followed by several countries across the world. The two main objectives of the fishing ban in Goa is; firstly, to allow several species of fish to spawn during the period of the ban, and secondly, to prevent fishermen from risking their lives in the choppy seas during the monsoons.

Goa to impose fine of Rs 5,000 on plastic bags from July: Manohar Parrikar
by SUGANDH RATAN PANAJI: Get ready for a cleaner Goa. The state government is going to ban plastic bags. In view of current events and the litter menace in the state, the Goa government has decided to ban buying and selling of plastic bags in the state. Starting from July 2017, all plastic bags below 50 microns will be banned in the state. Thin plastic has caused flooding by blocking drains and thus has often increased flooding in public places. This is a very big problem in the coastal villages of Goa where one can see plastic bags here and there. No proper disposal knowledge is provided to inhabitants and local authorities are not empowered to take action. Since the plastic is easily carried by water,
the situation becomes a lot worse in the monsoon season. The plastic bags are often seen on beaches thus spoiling the holiday experience too. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on 30th of May, 2017 told the media about the ban. He also said that strict measures will be taken against anyone who violates the ban to keep Goa free from plastic. He also said that will put fine on anyone in violation of this, caught buying or selling plastic bags. The amount has not been finalised yet but Parrikar said that it will not be meagre. Talking about the fine related the ban he said, “The fine won’t be a meagre amount. It will be hefty. It might be up to ₹5,000. We might give some relaxation in the beginning in terms of the amount of fine, but we are going to implement the ban strictly”. He also made it clear that government will be a little easy on people in the beginning as change takes time to set in. Furthermore, he also pointed out that residents do not need to worry about their garbage disposal requirements. The government is working on starting work stations on highways for garbage collection.
