The Legislature granted funding to provide resources needed to establish educational pathway partnerships to serve regional and statewide industry workforce needs.

Talent Development Grant (H.B. 348) • $11 million (one-time) available to for-profit businesses to support hiring and training programs that meet company demands Talent Ready Connection Grant (H.B. 68) • $2 million (one-time) to establish programs that support work-based learning and industryrecognized apprenticeships.

Utah Works Program (S.B. 172) • $1 million (ongoing) to establish and support short term training programs provided to the industry by Utah’s institutions of higher education

Talent Ready Apprenticeship Connection (TRAC) Industry, education, and government alignment to build quality talent that meets longterm workforce needs We provide high school students access to industryrecognized apprenticeships within high-growth industry sectors, placing students on a pathway to employment and enhanced learning opportunities.

Talent Ready Apprenticeship Connection allows high school seniors to earn credit towards an associate degree while applying classroom knowledge in the workplace.

We provide industry-recognized apprenticeships that benefit both employers and apprentices. We help meet immediate and long-term workforce needs with quality and talented individuals interested in pursuing professional development.

Apprenticeships provide students with enhanced learning and early access to education, earning valuable, transferable work experience and credentials for an accelerated pathway to careers in high-growth industries.

H.B. 68 legislation supports the development of work-based learning and apprenticeship programs throughout the state. One-time funds became available in July 2021.

Weekly Work Hours

Job Description

First Year

Block schedule every other week.

50% time in class 50% time in workplace

Apprentices complete their senior year of high school enrolled in relevant classes and work at the company facility. Students have a choice between different specializations.

Second Year

3.5 days 30% time in class 70% time in workplace

During year two, apprentices attend courses at Salt Lake Community College. With the company, apprentices begin focused training.

Third Year

4 days 30% time in class 70% time in workplace

Year three consists of advanced classes at SLCC and advanced practical training at the workplace.

Utah Works Program Industry, education, and government alignment to address workforce gaps

The Utah Works program provides short-term workforce development to meet the needs of businesses creating jobs and economic growth through expansion or new ventures in the state.

The program promotes partnerships between businesses and the Utah System of Higher Education to provide short-term technical skills training to fill high-demand positions.

Recruitment → Short-term training → Employment • The program is designed by industry, selecting which courses and training are required. Then, partnering with the Utah System of Higher Education, we provide training to fill in-demand positions.

The Legislature appropriates funding for the Utah Works Program as defined in Senate Bill 172 (63N-12-505. Utah Works).

Businesses and educational institutions partner to apply to participate in the program. The Talent Ready Utah Board reviews applications.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, subject to funding availability.

Talent Development Grant

The Talent Development Grant can provide funding for businesses to develop and deliver training programs that help create new high-paying Utah jobs. The grant compliments Go Utah’s Economic Development Tax Increment Financing program, providing a workforce development incentive to local companies.

are eligible to apply. Awards may be up to $10,000 per new job created and no more than 25% of the company’s estimated talent development costs.

Grants awarded are designated to reimburse a business for the costs incurred to recruit, hire, train, and otherwise employ a worker in a newly created job.
