‘‘ How We Started

There was a small Russian deli called Ukraina on our corner that had recently gone up for sale. Seeing an opportunity, my father decided to take a chance and purchase it,” recalled his son Edward, who is now the CEO.

Founded in a modest Brooklyn storefront by Sam and Edward Shnayder, a father-and-son team from the former U.S.S.R., NetCost Market and its evolution into Grand Market International Corp. have been a family affair from day one.

After securing a small apartment in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn, Mr. Shnayder sensed opportunity in the growing influx of newly immigrated people from the former Soviet Republics and Eastern Europe settling in the area.

Sam and Edward's entrepreneurial spirit sparked the beginning of a business that has since grown beyond their wildest expectations.

The roots of the business date back to 1991, when Sam arrived in New York with only $300 in his pocket and his young family by his side.

Who We Are Today

An ambitious international food service network of importers, distributors, and specialty food stores with Brooklyn roots, Grand Market International Corp. proves that the American dream is not just alive but thriving.
