NEW DIRECTIONS CHAMBER WINDS New Directions Chamber Winds, a volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, is an ever-evolving informal group of instrumentalists and conductors from the tri-county area of South Florida who have come together to establish a chamber music ensemble to bring classical music in an alternative form to South Florida audiences. As a large non-professional chamber wind ensemble not affiliated with a larger established organization or educational institution, New Directions Chamber Winds is unique in South Florida. Our mission is to establish the chamber winds as a viable music making institution alongside traditional wind-bands and orchestras. We are fundamentally an augmented double woodwind quintet. Our ensemble consists of two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns, and string bass with the frequent inclusion of auxiliary instruments; piccolo, English horn, bass clarinet, contrabassoon, a second pair of horns, keyboards and percussion. Our musicians come from diverse backgrounds and musical paths. We are students; we are active and retired music professionals and educators; we are recreational musicians; and some of us are retired from our careers and choose to continue with the joy of making music. Our repertoire includes classical and original works; transcriptions of more familiar, larger orchestral works; and forays into new music.

TROPICAL WAVE

Tropical Wave is led by The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida’s (GMCSF) Assistant Conductor Anthony Cabrera, the vocal ensemble of the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida designed for special service performances and when a venue has limited space for the entire chorus. They are also frequently showcased in mainstage concerts and community events. GMCSF brings live music and entertainment to the community through large-scale, main-stage concerts in high-profile venues, community-based engagements, and volunteer projects. More than 25,000 people are inspired and moved each year by the Chorus’s music, community outreach, and mission, making GMCSF a significant LGBTQ+ nonprofit arts organization and cultural asset in the heart of South Florida. With more than 180 singing members, GMCSF is the most prominent gay men’s chorus in the southeastern United States and ranks among the country’s top 10 largest nonprofit LGBTQ+ choruses. Our mission is to sing so that LGBTQ+ people can live their truth through quality music experiences that inspire audiences, open minds, change hearts, and affirm our common humanity. Our vision is a diverse world united. Visit us at gmcsf.org for more information.
