Glyn is a vibrant community where students flourish. We strive to ensure that all young people will leave Glyn as well-rounded individuals who have fulfilled their potential, both academically and personally, to enable them to continue on their journey, whatever the destination may be. We believe that every student has a talent and can experience success as they develop into young adults.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. This message has inspired us to make it our responsibility to ensure that the education provided by Glyn is world class, empowering young people with the attributes to change the world.
We put learning at the heart of all we do, both in and out of the classroom, and students have many opportunities available to them, to help broaden their character and resilience.
At Glyn School, we hold high expectations of all our students in every respect. We have a unique and welcoming atmosphere that places side by side the highest possible aspirations for every student’s academic progress as well as the values that they hold and live by. All of our students are individuals and we all, colleagues and students alike, celebrate the accomplishments of our community.
We are proud of our community and strive to ensure all are happy and thriving.
We look forward to welcoming you to our community.
At Glyn, we believe that fostering a culture of high expectations and nurturing positive relationships is just as important as maintaining excellent qualifications. Our core values are centered around ensuring that every student is nurtured, challenged, and supported to reach their full potential. We have a House System at Glyn comprising eight Houses. Students will represent their House in a variety of events throughout the year, of which all the points go towards the awarding of the Victor Ludorum Cup at the end of each academic year.
Our core values of Integrity, Respect, Kindness and Endeavour permeate through our daily life.
‘Integrity and Respect’ underpin our entire philosophy.
We are a school community motivated by integrity and embodying a true understanding of respect and care for others is a successful school. If a student can demonstrate these characteristics, this will stand them in a strong position as they take their next steps when they leave Glyn School.
Key to our success are our experienced and dedicated teaching, pastoral, and support staff. Our teaching approach is designed not only to impart knowledge but also to encourage students to develop into independent and critical thinkers. We strive to create an environment where every student can thrive and achieve their best.
“Pupils actively embrace the school’s values of respect, integrity, kindness and endeavour.”

Glyn School is committed to offering an education that provides students with the selfconfidence, digital literacy and social skills that will enable them to make the most of all life’s opportunities. We want our students to develop not only their academic knowledge and practical skills, but also the independent learning ability and self-management attitude that will help them to succeed. Learning is enriched with a wide variety of activities including debates, visits and lectures.
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which caters for the needs of all of our students and all subjects are taught by experienced and enthusiastic subject specialists, with each student receiving individual support and guidance.
Technology is widely used to enhance the curriculum and the school utilises the benefits of Chromebooks and the flexibility of Google tools to further collaboration and creativity, allowing students to access Cloud-based learning resources from anywhere.
“Leaders’ high expectations come to fruition, as seen through pupils’ impressive academic achievements. The school is swift to act when minor improvements are needed as an aspect of its work. Staff and pupils are immensely proud to be a part of the school.”

Pastoral support begins before students even join the school, with our comprehensive transition programme, including visits to our feeder primary schools, one-to-one meetings with students and their Parents and Carers, and taster days for Year 6 students. This ensures a smooth and happy transfer to secondary school. Our summer school is one that is of huge value as our new students are able to experience life at Glyn amongst the company of only their peers prior to stepping through the doors in September.
Once at Glyn School, students join one of our eight Houses - Abbey, Bourne, Carew, Derby, Merton, Oaks, St Benet and Tudor.
Each student has a Head of Year, Deputy Head of Year and Form Tutor responsible for their progress and wellbeing.
We also have a House Leader who is responsible for fostering a sense of community, where each student can make a valuable contribution through activities such as sports matches, creative competitions and charity fundraising. House assemblies, with input from students, colleagues and visiting speakers, enhance this feeling of family, whilst also promoting students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
We are a host school for our externally provided Mental Health Practitioner Team who work with our students to support them at times of need. We have a range of support available for students including a School Counsellor, ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and Thrive (programme offering emotional and social support to students).
Committed to promoting students’ physical development, as well as their mental progress, exercise and fitness have a significant profile at Glyn School. This includes a wide range of competitive sports teams with high levels of participation and national success.
“Pupils demonstrate strong values, mutual respect and an authentic understanding of equality and inclusion. Student ambassadors look after younger pupils, and this supports them to feel safe and happy.”

We offer a wide range of opportunities including enrichment and co-curricular to help students build their character and develop their talents.
We have a vast programme of activities that students can opt into and we encourage students to take part in as much as possible to obtain those additional characteristics that will help them stand out from others in later life.
We run a large number of day and residential trips catering for all, ranging from camping trips in the UK, Kew Gardens visits, faculty related day trips such as theatre and university visits, sports tours, as well as trips to Iceland for A Level Geographers and our annual ski trip.
Sport plays a vital role in our school community, with our teams achieving success at national and regional levels in sports such as table tennis, football, rugby and cricket. Additionally, students have numerous opportunities to showcase and develop their talents in music, drama, and the arts.
We run an incredibly popular Duke of Edinburgh Award programme with opportunities to undertake Bronze, Silver and Gold (numbers allowing) awards.
We share a Combined Cadet Force with a local independent school and have a contingency of 32 students.
“Extra-curricular provision is extensive. It covers subject sessions, young journalists, music, dance and drama as well as sporting clubs, including athletics, boxing, fencing and rugby. The valued house system offers many opportunities for active participation.“

Glyn School’s thriving Sixth Form is an inspiring environment in which our young people can extend their academic knowledge and develop the skills required for university, apprenticeships and employment.
Most boys stay on at Glyn School for their post-16 education, being joined by students from other local schools; these include girls and we highly value the mixed nature of our Sixth Form. The overwhelming majority of our Sixth Formers achieve a place at university and we actively support those students wishing to secure apprenticeships as an alternative choice to university.
We offer the widest curriculum for our Sixth Form provision, with a variety of Level 3 (A Level or BTEC equivalent) courses available in order to suit all abilities and aptitudes. With highly qualified teachers to inspire and challenge them, as well as a range of enrichment opportunities and extracurricular activities, our students relish their time in Years 12 and 13. Students enjoy excellent facilities including an exclusive study area with computers, a careers library, dedicated teaching rooms and a social meeting space.
I hope to help foster the same sense of belonging and support that I felt on my first day, and uphold the values that make Glyn School such a special place.
- Donovan, Head Student
Teachers welcomed us into their classrooms and encouraged us from the get-go, supporting us whenever we needed.

“Sixth-form provision is of the same high quality as for the rest of the school. Study programmes are appropriate and ambitious. A high proportion of pupils with SEND stay on at the end of Year 11. They are supported extremely well to make the transition into post-16 study. The quality of students’ sixth-form experience is reflected in their strong academic outcomes, progression to universities and high quality apprenticeships.”
