MASON CITY — Mallory Lane, a 2013 graduate of Mason City High School, will compete in the Miss Iowa Teen Pageant Oct. 12-13 inNewton. The competition consists of three proportional segments: evening gown, fitness/swimwear and personality interview. Over $1.3 million dollars in scholarships will be available at the pageant this year, and 30 contestants at this year’s pageants will be receiving college scholarships. In addition, this year’s state titleholders will each receive thousands of dollars in prizes and awards. Lane is the daughter of Lisa and David Lane, and granddaughter of Cynthia Sanders and Janet Lane, all of Mason City. Mallory Lane is being sponsored by: The Styling Lane Salon, Yours Truly Photography and family and friends.

After 40 years as a registered pharmacist, Sonja Hanson, of Ankeny, is retiring! Sonja started her professional career in Mason City at Medical Arts (3 years) working with one of the greatest supervisors she ever had, the late Mel Hippen. The majority of her career was spent in Des Moines working the night shift at Iowa Lutheran Hospital (19 years) and Broadlawns Medical Center (17 years). Sonja graduated from Mason City High School in 1966 and from Drake University with a degree in pharmacy in 1973. Sonja currently resides in Ankeny with her husband, Hans. She is the daughter of the late Donald and Marie (Perkins) Rachut, twin sister of Eric (Moody, Texas) and sister of Rica (Oakland, Calif.). As a fitness enthusiast, she plans to spend her retirement days cycling on bike trails, competing in local 5K’s and attending grandchildren activities. Congratulations! The Wubbens were married at the Congregational Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa, on Oct. 13, 1963. Neil and Karen moved to Osage in 1985 when Neil was hired by Iowa State University as Mitchell County Extension Director. He served in that role until his retirement in 2010. Karen ran a home daycare in Osage for many years and now works on the staff of the Osage Community Daycare. The couple have three children and nine grandchildren.
