Forest City All-State Speech FOREST CITY — Forest City speech students, Russell Sharper, Nathan Koch, April McCormick and Jon Happel, attended the Individual All-State Speech Festival, March 28, at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. Sharper performed a prose selection, Kochstorytelling, McCormicksolo musical theatre, and Happel- solo improvisation acting. This is the second year Happel attended the event. This was an opportunity for students receiving outstanding nominations from two or three of their state speech judges, to perform in a festival setting. Each student performed their piece, received verbal comments from a critic, and then received an All State Medallion. Forest City speech coaches are Scott Bertelsen, Dan May and Julie Keely.

Scholarship award AMES — Devon Murray, of Charles City, is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the Iowa Seed Association. Murray was one of nine students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University, who received a $1,000 scholarship. Murray is a junior at ISU and is majoring in agricultural studies, with a minor in agronomy. The ISA scholarships are open to students in any major in ISU’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of: academic excellence, leadership skills, interpersonal skills and a demonstrated interest in a career in the seed industry or seed science.

Palmer College Dean’s List DAVENPORT — Ben Dickerson, of Clear Lake, a student in the doctor of chiropractic program at Palmer College of Chiropractic, was named to the Dean’s List for the first trimester. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must achieve a minimum 3.50 grade point average based on a 4.00 scale.

Midland University Dean’s List FREMONT, Neb. — Elijah Ungs, of Ventura, Iowa, was named to the Dean’s List for the 2010 fall semester at Midland University. Students named to the list earned a grade point average of 3.5 or above, while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours during the semester.

Cornell College Dean’s List MOUNT VERNON — Andrew Roberts, of Ackley, and Joshua Randall, of Osage, were named to the Dean’s List for the 2010 fall semester at Cornell College. A grade point average of at least 3.6 on a 4.0 scale is required for this designation.

William Jewell Dean’s List LIBERTY, Mo. — Sarah Ashley Hodson, of LuVerne, Iowa, was named to the 2010 fall semester Dean’s List at William Jewell College. To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average while carrying 14 or more semester hours.
