Dear Delegate, Congratulations on being accepted to the 2012 GlobeMed Global Health Summit! You are among over 250 university students that will participate in the three-day summit held April 12-14 on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. The 2012 GlobeMed Global Health Summit will bring together almost 300 undergraduates for three days of intensive lectures and workshops with representatives from grassroots global health organizations and global health experts. The Summit is designed to prepare GlobeMed students to be leaders in the field, with discrete programming focused on knowledge-sharing, personal discernment, and community-building. This year’s theme, Walking Together, Walking Far: Partnership as a Framework for Meaningful Action, will explore the role of collaboration in bringing about a world beyond poverty. Delegates will follow a progression to examine the philosophical and pragmatic discourses involved in actionable, evaluative global health partnerships. The 2012 Summit is poised to be a pivotal moment in GlobeMed's history. The Summit will open with remarks from Melissa Covelli, Senior Communications Officer at the Gates Foundation’s Polio Strategy. We are excited to announce that our honorary keynote will be a joint discussion with Pamela Barnes, CEO of EngenderHealth, and Pamela Angwech, a Ugandan grassroots activist who survived one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises and emerged as one of her community’s most prized leaders, transforming the health of hundreds of women living in poverty. Furthermore, we are excited to announce a plenary keynote address by Gary Slutkin, co-founder of Ceasefire, an organization committed to preventing violence through an application of public health knowledge that treats violence with methods similar to those used in disease control. Previous Summits have brought global leaders including Paul Farmer, Joseph Amon, Stephen Lewis, and Nils Daulaire, to address the Northwestern community at large and engage them in dialogue on how to advance a movement for a healthier world. I can be contacted at the address above, emailed at maya@globemed.org or called anytime at 847-467-2143. Sincerely, Maya Cohen Executive Director
