THE GLOBAL AUTISM PROJECT

HOW & WHY WE TRAIN

THE GLOBAL AUTISM PROJECT

Our work is rooted in sustainable development. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Our work is focused on building local capacity, never our own presence. We whole-heartedly believe that local people are the most qualified educators, advocates, and leaders in their communities. By partnering with locally-led centers around the world, we can ensure that individuals with autism can access the best services in their own country.

THE GLOBAL AUTISM PROJECT

When we are working with our partners we use the Socratic Method to guide our conversations. In using this method we are not providing our partners with answers to their questions (building dependability) but rather helping them to problem solve on their own (building sustainability). When a person is able to create a solution through their own thought process they become empowered. Empowering our partners means providing them with the confidence and tools to tackle whatever obstacles they may face. By engaging in Socratic Questioning with our partners, we can ensure that they will take ownership of the ideas and solutions that have been formulated. It is not our job to provide answers, it is our job to show our partners that they are competent and capable.
