Area News We already let part of our house for selfcatering holidays and Carol encouraged me to advertise holidays for carriage drivers, as we are lucky to be surrounded by miles of off-road tracks and quiet lanes. Many years of wonderful drive-outs with our visitors followed, some staying twice each year and becoming firm friends and often joining up with the local driving club, run by the former AC Fredi Izat.

I am looking forward to getting back into the driving fraternity and hope to organise
Ten years ago that all stopped as my pony mad daughters were seriously three-day eventing and I was required to be groom and driver! They are now both about to graduate from University and I have time to get back to my own horsey activities. I’ve started with ridden dressage and am planning to drive a pair of coloured cobs.

We fared somewhat better later in the month, both with weather and numbers when we met at Stephanie Dale’s just outside Tetbury for a drive along the Fosse Way and connecting lanes. A really good turnout of all sizes which included visitors from Avon. The hedgerows and trees were stunning and the sun really shone. This was followed by two indoor evening events at new venues with our regular winter skittles. The Bell at Purton Stoke with a good reputation for food did not disappoint and twenty members and partners had a great evening.

always welcome to our events; please come and support the programme that has been arranged as it so disappointing when there aren’t so many there. May I just take this opportunity, to thank everyone who has sent their good wishes and congratulations on my recent award in the Queen’s New Year Honours, I have been overwhelmed by people’s kind words and it’s wonderful to be rewarded in this way for something that I love doing! Safe driving and a very Happy New Year
