GOOD NEWS IN GLENDALE
Glendale’s Human Resources and Risk Management team was honored with a 2024 THEO Award, a recognition for innovations in Workers' Comp and Injury Prevention.
HR Program Manager Lorena Sanchez-Zumph and the HR and Risk Management team faced challenges managing cancer claims for employees, especially those in public safety positions. With a focus on communication and educational resources to understand the claims process, the team has improved the process for employees and developed a strong foundation to build on.
Congratulations to everyone involved!
FIREFIGHTERS SAVE THE DAY FOR DRIVER IN DISTRESS,
Our firefighters have once again sparked positive publicity for the city and demonstrated how they stay cool under pressure when helping residents.
A resident shared her gratitude towards Fire Captain Joshua Brayer, pictured here holding a certificate to celebrate his 20-year anniversary with the city, along with Engineer Adam Pottle (left), as well as Firefighter Alejandro Gonzalez (next to Brayer) and Engineer Maximo Moreno (right), who were assigned to Fire Station 159 recently. She said the compassionate crew helped her push her dead car off the road at Bell Road and 69th Avenue and into a parking lot when she was with her son.
The resident shared that “they were absolutely amazing and in the right place at the right time to help me and my son.”
Their commitment to helping residents captured the attention of Arizona’s Family.
Flu season is here, and COG is making it easy for everyone to roll up their sleeves to stay healthy.

SPOTLIGHT ON GLENDALE
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Glendale’s roots in the community and commitment to nurturing residents were evident when FOX 10 Phoenix visited a special garden.
The TV station interviewed Community Services Deputy Director Matt Hess, pictured on the left, along with the non-profit organization Heart for the City’s founder/CEO and president Joe Eriquez and Community Garden director Jenny Beasley for stories on Heart for the City’s Community Garden.
This green oasis on 69th Avenue, north of Bethany Home Road, attracts people of all ages on almost half an acre behind Fire Station 152. Schoolchildren and adults enjoy planting fruits and vegetables, taking cooking classes, celebrating birthdays and engaging in other sustainable, fun activities there that promote healthy eating, science lessons and camaraderie.
Great job to everyone on the Community Services team! Watch the full story.
Lifelong learning is essential to growing. NEOGOV-LEARN offers a variety of classes to help you learn a new skill, develop leadership abilities and even earn certificates in your field.
