GREAT NEWS AROUND GLENDALE
EMPLOYEES’ GENEROSITY AND TIME BRIGHTEN FAMILIES’
The winter holiday season was brighter for families in need last month, thanks to the generous donations of city employees.
City workers in various departments assisted 96 families with a total of 331 people through our Adopt-a-Family Program. They purchased and wrapped presents worth $35,000, based on the ages and needs of each family member, and spread holiday cheer to these residents in December.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Adopt-a-Family program. It’s just one way the city demonstrates its compassion and commitment to assisting residents who are experiencing difficult times.
HOLIDAY TREE RECYCLING CAPTIVATES MEDIA
After the last present was opened and celebrations ended, our Field Operations Department was busy running the city’s holiday tree recycling program.
This program, which allowed anyone to drop off their live trees at seven locations around the city, landed much coverage on TV and radio stations and in newspapers Johnny Morales, supervisor for Solid Waste - Recycling in Field Operations, pictured to the left, shared details about this convenient way to “go green” with a KSAZ-Fox 10 reporter during a live segment on Dec 27 at Foothills Park
Glendale sends these trees to a city of Phoenix, where they are ground up and used for sod, mulch and landscaping, keeping them out of landfills.
Trees were collected from Dec. 26 to Jan. 4 at the seven sites and Glendale residents also could leave their trees outside to be picked up during the city’s regular, monthly Bulk Trash collection scheduled for their areas.
