JULY 18 - 2018 ONLINE EDITION - 04

What needs to be done to improve Mooloolah? Recently Mooloolah Year 5 teacher, Camille Freiberg, contacted GC&M News to see if we would be interested in sharing the students’ Letters to the Editor that her students put together with their persuasive writing skills. Below are a selection of what issues the students see as important to the local community. Public pool I believe that while the Mooloolah’s swimming pool is very popular, that’s not the case in winter. We must get a new, heated swimming pool. Mooloolah State School is lacking sport in winter at the moment. Everyone had lots of fun in summer when we did swimming lessons. We had lots of students go to districts and do well, but now we’re just wasting our PE time. The swimming pool is practically useless in winter and it starts to turn green. If more people swim, we could raise more money to make the school better. Think about it, it will make everyone happy. If we have a heated swimming pool, I can guarantee we would do well at districts and have more people moving to the community! Bonnie Muller Dune buggy and dirt bike track needed I strongly believe that there should be a dune buggy and dirt bike track near the Mooloolah Country Club. People could have fun on the weekends doing jumps, skids or 4WDriving. They have lots of land and you won’t have to cut down any trees. The entire community can use it. There should also be a hire facility so that people can try it out too. If kids go on this, it could help their driving education! The community needs it! Jack Crowther Not enough buses I’m writing this letter to you to tell you that there are nowhere near enough buses from Landsborough to Maleny. My sisters and her friends have to catch a train, then a bus, to get to school. This equates to Maleny High School students who live in Mooloolah traveling four hours and 40 minutes every day! This is unbelievable! So, please consider adding in an extra bus service from Mooloolah to Landsborough then connecting to

Maleny in the morning and in the afternoon for the poor tired high school students. This would be a great service and the Mooloolah community would greatly benefit! Nayten M. Fish More shops for Mooloolah Valley I strongly believe that we need more shops in Mooloolah Valley. Right now there is only an IGA, a bottle shop, a butcher, a hardware store and a bakery. I am very sure that these are not relevant stores for the younger population. In the Mooloolah Valley shopping district we need a video store, a book store and most of all a bigger grocery store like Woolworths or Coles. This would help by not having to drive out of town and waste petrol and money going to the big shopping centres when we could just get those shops in Mooloolah Valley. Logan Quinn-Haines Expand the skate park I think that the Mooloolah Valley Junior Skate Park should be improved by making it bigger and better. I also feel that the community should be aware that when birds lay their eggs people start to get swooped by magpies, plovers and other birds. This experience is not enjoyable for anyone using the skate park. Ciara Jones Fountain for the park I strongly believe that we should have a beautiful light blue fountain installed at the Mooloolah Park because we must make the park a peaceful place. The soothing noise of water falling from a fountain is very tranquil. Fountains are the key to relaxing. The Mooloolah community definitely needs a water fountain! Lucas Goodman Homeless people deserve a second chance People are dying and lots of children are suffering because they don’t have any homes or food. Lots of people look at homeless people and don’t even think about helping them. I think the Mooloolah area, and the Sunshine Coast as a whole, should have at least two shelters for the homeless. They can leave whenever they want and arrive when they want. Scarlett Dickson

Expand Mooloolah’s Park I think we should definitely expand Mooloolah’s local park. We need to get more equipment and a bigger grassland to have picnics! I also think getting more equipment for the junior area would be great! It only has about five pieces of equipment. I think we should have more bike and scooter paths around the park – that would be amazing! More visitors would come to enjoy the barbeques and use all the facilities! Matilda Montague Build bike paths More pathways and bike paths should be put around Mooloolah Valley because kids can’t drive everywhere, so they have to use bikes, scooters and skate boards. Some kids don’t know road rules so they have to use a path and not go on our big busy roads where cars and oversized vehicles are going 80km/h an hour. We don’t want kids getting run over. Then you will feel really sorry! I believe that the pathways and bike paths will help parents as well, because kids’ parents won’t have to take their kids everywhere. Also there will be fewer cars on the road and less pollution in the air and kids will be much fitter. Emma Phillis We need a footy team I strongly believe Mooloolah Valley should get a footy team and a field. A lot of people in Mooloolah want to play footy but are not able to have their say. Mooloolah Valley has plenty of space just waiting there to be used. This could be used as a football field for a club instead of people having to go to Caloundra three days a week for a proper game. Michael Evans Upgrade for Glenview Road I strongly believe we need the Glenview Road redone because when it rains the bridge floods. The road is really bumpy and dangerously easy to crash! Lives are in your hands! The corner I live on has little visibility and extremely high chances of a car crash! You could be killing people by not upgrading the road! Everybody in Glenview is complaining about this horrific corner, the bad bridge and bumpy roads! You should make a change! Save lives! Willem Poulus
