Sunshine Coast Walk for Women’s Cancers
Community benefits from business celebration
Cancer Council Queensland is calling on the Sunshine Coast community to unite in pink to create hope for every woman’s future. Registrations have now opened for the annual Walk for Women’s Cancers event being held at Alex Skate Park on September 15 from 8am. The event is a 3km or 6km family-friendly fun walk for participants of all abilities, with funds raised going towards Cancer Council Queensland’s research for life-saving treatments and support programs for women affected by cancer. Cancer Council Queensland CEO Chris McMillan encouraged all Sunshine Coast locals to unite and walk towards a cancer free future this September. “One in six Queensland women will be diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancers in their lifetime," Ms McMillan said. “Getting involved might only seem like a small way to make an impact but your contribution makes a lasting difference to locals touched by this disease. The Sunshine Coast community can expect an action-packed morning filled with live entertainment, food trucks and more. Paint Place owners Anthony and Ailsa Austin (outside) with Mark Forbes from endED and Andrew Wallace MP, who officially open the new premises
The team at Paint Place Beerwah celebrated the opening of their new store on the corner of Simpson Street and Pine Camp Road on Saturday morning. They shared the excitement with local families with free face painting and lucky dips for the kids and a tasty sausage sizzle for the grown-ups. However, the real winner of the day was local community organisation endED, which will receive a donation of $1,100 from sales as well as other fundraising efforts on the day. endEd is a community organisation that focuses on assisting those facing the battle of eating disorders and their parents and carers. It is locally based at Mooloolah Valley. Mark Forbes, co-founder of endED, said he felt very humbled when he parked across the road and saw the endED banners flying outside the store.
