The Maleny Independent School first opened its door in 2018. On Tuesday, August 6 the school will put out the welcome mat for visitors interested in finding out more about future enrolments. There will be two information sessions on the day, one in the morning at 9.15am and an afternoon session at 4.15pm. Currently the secondary school has 25 enrolled students in years 7-9. In 2020 this will expand to offer year 10 as well. The school is the only neohumanism-based secondary school in Australia and prides itself on offering inspiring and engaging educational options that support a connected curriculum with real-world implications and outcomes. Director Rowan Hutson says the school aims to empower children to be passionate about their learning and students are encouraged to achieve their full potential academically, socially, emotionally and physically. “We are committed to supporting an environment that fosters a deep love of learning in a school where the children feel a sense of belonging and that they are passionate about. “The school promotes enquiry-based learning and a purposefully connected curriculum that meets the Australian Curriculum requirements with a full range of subjects on offer, as well as extension and learning support-based programs,” Rowan said. Students are encouraged to take an active role in their school and greater community and are invited to be involved in decision making and negotiation, and to be to be part of learning conversations and relationships. The visitors’ day will give parents and care givers the opportunity to meet the school principal and key staff members, as well as gaining an understanding of the curriculum and learn more about the programs and options on offer.
