ell the Christmas holidays and Australia Day are done and dusted so it is now full steam ahead for back to school for 2013.

With plenty of local youngsters heading off to school this week and next, we thought it would be great to get a couple of happy little vegemites all dressed up ready for their big day.

Our front page cuties are best friends Riley and Amelia who will be going to different schools – but plan on staying ‘besties’!

Not being a parent I can’t imagine what it must be like for the mums when they wave off their little ones wearing their school uniforms with their huge big back packs, looking so grown up.

Talking to our two little preppies when they came in for their photos they were a bit shy – but I think they were both pretty excited about going off to big school.

I asked their mums how they felt and Riley’s mum Lisa said as he was her last one going off to school she thought she might be a bit teary.

Amelia’s mum Jaye said she thought she would be ok; she has older children at university so she has done it all before.

The general consensus of the two mums though, was it would probably all depend on how the kids handled it and that they would take some tissues with them just in case.

Mooloolah Pool saga continues

By Greg Brown For months GCNews have been following the story about ongoing community access of the swimming pool at the Mooloolah State School when the lease arrangements between Education Queensland and the Sunshine Coast Council lapsed at the end of November 2012.

With just two months to go until the temporary agreement now lapses, there is genuine concern in the community that the final outcome still may be that Mooloolah may have a community pool that they partly paid for, but will be locked out of accessing.

Temporary hours were established during the school holidays and now the opening hours that will be in place until March 28 have been confirmed as Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5.30am – 8.00am and Tuesday and Thursday 3.00pm – 6.00pm which locals who wish to see the pool remain open would be encouraged to take advantage of.

Council and the Mooloolah Valley Community Association have been trying to resolve the matter before the original deadline, but all their attempts have been met with a wall of silence and inaction.

In July last year, Council met with the Education Queensland North Coast Regional Director, Mr Greg Peach who asked that Council put their concerns and ideas to him in writing.

A Council spokesperson confirmed that this was undertaken and yet, no response has been received from Mr Peach or from Education Queensland.

Interestingly Member for Caloundra, Mark McArdle

has informed GCNews that his office has been advised by the office of the Minister for Education that the negotiations are continuing between Education Queensland and the Sunshine Coast Council.

“It is important that the Sunshine Coast Regional Council resume the support that has previously been provided to ensure that this valuable community resource can continue,” Mr McArdle said.

Frustrated by the lack of response from Education Queensland, the Mooloolah Valley Community Association wrote to the Minister for Education Mr John-Paul Langbroek MP, outlining the situation and encouraging him to assist.

The letter encouraged the Minister to progress the negotiations so that they can be finalised and the community has certainty of access to the pool.

The group is yet to receive a response from the Minister, perpetuating one of the issues raised in the letter by the group; that being ‘…despite requests to be involved in negotiations or at least be kept in the loop, Mooloolah Valley Community Association has not been kept informed with respect to these negotiations.’

The local Mooloolah residents, community groups and the Sunshine Coast Council may be glad to hear that, according to Mr Peach, the Education Department recognises that the pool at Mooloolah State School is an important community resource, and is currently working closely with community organisations in a bid to resolve outstanding concerns.

“The Department is eager to see an outcome that allows for equitable community access to the pool,” he claimed.

Unfortunately, the Department’s track record so far may lead many in the community to think otherwise.

Need a feed moving ahead Last August we bought you a story about Adrienne Heppel who is a long-time local, working in our community to help those that need support. We recently went back to catch up with Adrienne to see how her latest projects were coming along.

When we last spoke to Adrienne she was working with the Maori Anglican Mission based in Brisbane and was about to launch ‘Need a Feed’ providing meals for University students on the Sunshine Coast.

The project is now underway and they are offering a mobile ‘Need a Feed’ service for areas in need.

Adrienne’s concept has proved successful and has been delivered into Logan and Browns Plains and a date has already been set for the first ‘Need a Feed’ in Berkley, a suburb south of Wollongong in NSW. Adrienne and her husband Ron run ‘All About Trailers’ and have personally paid for a suitable refrigerated trailer which will be used to transport prepared food.

Ron who is a boilermaker, has refurbished a refrigerated trailer giving it new tyres, installing a new bench and replacing flooring, to make it suitable for their requirements.

Adrienne said her family was pleased to be able to provide the trailer.

Adrienne from All About Trailers It would now be used by the volunteers at Maori Anglican Mission and would make a difference to those who are struggling financially, she said.

Over the years Adrienne has opened her home to many people in need of a roof over their head.

She is now working on establishing a registered Respite Centre on her property. She said it will provide respite care with a more personalised approach than what is available locally.

The Respite Centre is being auspiced by the Maori Anglican Mission and Adrienne is working with a team of volunteers to finalise the regulatory requirements.

At this stage they have almost everything they need to go ahead, but would really appreciate donations of office equipment including computers / printers that are in good condition.

Adrienne said on the first Sunday of each month there is an Anglican Maori Church Service followed by music and lunch at New Zealand House on Steve Irwin Way (just before the Beerburrum turnoff), which the community are welcome to attend.

Couple on Thong-a-thon mission Recently we received a visit from Colin and Valmai Phillips of Glass House Mountains who wanted to share a story with us about their recent holiday to Vanuatu and how they had been inspired to try and share with the villagers they visited some of the basics of life that we take for granted.

This trip was their second holiday in Vanuatu and they didn’t just want to take in the sights as a tourist but wanted to get a real understanding of how the people live and to interact with the locals.

Valmai said the people were warm, loving and very friendly, nothing was too much for them, they really had nothing of great value but seem very happy with their lot.

“Very few places have mod cons as we know them, some people are lucky enough to have jobs in the shops or offices but mostly they rely on what they grow and sell at the markets,” she said.

“The men catch fish for food; the women wash their clothes in the creeks, cook on wood fires and rely on the moon or torches for lighting.

“There are no handouts by the government over there, you work or you don’t eat, it’s as simple as that,” she said.

Colin said it really made them think about how at home in Australia we grumble about the silliest simple things yet we are so blessed with what we have. If you lived for just a week in their situation you would never grumble about things again, he said.

“Interestingly you don’t see young ones hanging around the street smoking, playing electronic games and swearing, however you are more likely to see the young playing with a lizard.

“When you stop to look at what they are doing they will ask you to take a picture of them with you for money for food or so they can buy a soccer ball,” Colin said.

In the small village of Seaside in the countries’ capital of Port Villa where they were staying, Colin and Valmai bought a soccer ball for the kids as they love sport in particular soccer, rugby, volley ball and netball – which the children thought was great.

However what really struck them was that everyone wears rubber thongs, with some looking like they have had them for years hence their heals hung over the backs by about two to three sizes. What surprised them even more was the cost – basic rubber thongs can set the locals back around $14.00.

“While we were there we vowed to try and help by sponsoring a village with a thong-a-thon drive,” said Valmai.

“Any donation of new thongs would be greatly appreciated, or even some sporting equipment would mean the world to them.”

“We would greatly appreciate anybody who can help us by donating to our thong and sporting equipment drive or even help in some way of getting the donations sent to Vanuatu, as well as shops or businesses to be a drop off point,” added Colin.

During December, Smileys Jewellers at Beerwah Marketplace ran a promotion to encourage locals to drop off non perishable food items that could be donated to the Salvation Army.

Jayme Lee a Year 11 Glasshouse Country Christian College student is clearly not a teenage girl obsessed with her long beautiful hair or she certainly wouldn’t be brave enough to shave.

Business owner Tanya Smiley said she was really overwhelmed by Rebecca being congratulated on her win by Tanya the generosity of those that dropped off food or made gold coin donations.

“Even in these tough times where money is tight it is really heartwarming to see people bringing in things that would help brighten someone else’s Christmas,” she said.

To encourage and reward these good deeds, Tanya decided to run a competition where those who made donations would go into the draw to win a beautiful cushion cut Gilson pink sapphire and brilliant cut diamond 9ct dress ring which was independently valued at $1,750.

The lucky winner of the ring was Rebecca Campbell of Glass House Mountains.

Yes as of March 1, Jayme Lee’s gorgeous locks will all be gone, and she is more than happy to lose them so she can fundraise for Leukemia Foundation.

Since Jayme Lee decided to take on the challenge, well-known local Allan Koschel has agreed to support her by getting a matching hairstyle – well there is just one catch – Jayme Lee needs to raise $5,000.00 before Allan will join her.

Is Your Baby Suffering From Colic?

Is your little one constantly crying in pain?

Is he/she having trouble feeding, or keeping it down? Is he/she arching his/her back in attempt to find relief? Do you wish you knew what was wrong?

Studies suggest infantile colic now occurs in 25-40 percent of babies.

The medical literature says infantile colic is difficult to diagnose and that if it is colic, most children will ‘outgrow it’ by 12 weeks of age.

The common treatment for infantile colic includes drugs like dimethicone, advice to change formula, or to ‘wait it out’ as the baby will eventually ‘outgrow it’. Most of these treatments, however, haven’t offered parents and babies the relief hoped for.

There is a better option! Several weeks of sleepless nights and living with a baby in pain can seem like forever. Chiropractors have known that specific spinal adjustments can get to the cause of what is ailing your child. There are numerous case studies where infants with colic have been relieved of their painful symptoms with chiropractic care.

In one study, 316 infants with moderate to severe colic were adjusted.

94 per cent of the children within 14 days of chiropractic care (usually three visits) showed a satisfactory response. After four weeks, the improvements were maintained. One fourth of these infants showed great improvement after the very first chiropractic adjustment. The remaining infants all showed improvement within 14 days. Note: 51 per cent of the infants had undergone prior unsuccessful treatment, usually drug therapy.

Contributed by Bob Banner January News Round Up The Beerwah Lions Club hasn’t wasted any time in getting its New Year resolutions into practice. The can collection on the first Saturday saw the Lions purchase 260 kilograms of empty aluminium cans from the public.

These cans have now gone for recycling, rather than becoming slow-tobreak-down landfill.

The weekend of January 5 and 6 saw extensive preparation by members Gwen and Doug Kippen come to fruition when they staged a procession of Kippen Brides at their home. Carefully preserved bridal gowns from several generations of the Kippen family were displayed by some charming models, some of whom were female Lions and Lions Ladies. The weekend was judged a resounding success both financially and socially.

The evening of January 16 saw the first in a proposed series of information nights conducted in the Beerwah Library.

Interested members of the public who attended were given an insight into the workings of the Beerwah Club, plus the humanitarian projects that the Lions Organisation conducts on a world-wide scale. The monthly activities will conclude with a social barbeque to celebrate Australia Day.

Our Zone Councillor, Ann McKenna held the induction of the Committee into their positions for 2013. We are still in need of a minute secretary to lighten the load of our secretary. If anyone would like to help out, please talk to one of our Committee members about what this position entails.

Our next outing is a morning at the movies at Morayfield on Tuesday, February 5. If you need a lift please meet at the Beerwah Library at 8.45am. Flip flopping along

For most of us, living in suburbia means at night having to endure the occasional noisy party, or hearing roaring and breaking of trucks, cars and motorbikes. We all understand that it is part of life and we deal with it.

Recently though my family and I in Mill Street at Landsborough has been struggling to cope with being awoken by a local (wearing thongs) walking his dog past our home generally pre-dawn three or four times a week – and the impact of having our sleep interrupted has been more than we can deal with.

While this may sound trivial, it has been affecting our family and a number of our neighbours.

The outcome is that we are suffering from sleep deprivation – which as everyone knows is a form of torture!

While we understand the importance of regular exercise for both humans and their loyal companions, in the interests of being a good neighbour we would like to request that ‘our walker friend’ start wearing joggers.

If this is not an option – if he could consider walking a little later in the morning, or maybe walking in a less populated area.

For us the sound of ‘flip flopping’ in the early hours of the morning has become as unbearable as hearing fingernails being dragged down a blackboard.

Glasshouse Country RSL Sub Branch Inc. - Beware

Are you aware that the Glasshouse Country RSL Sub Branch is being targeted for closure? Yes, there is movement afoot attempting to have the premises closed.

I first moved here in 2001 with my wife Leanne.

We wandered down one Friday evening for a meal, we were immediately made welcome and that started a very close association with the little club.

At that time, the then President, Mr George Pike was attempting to enlarge and improve the premises; we agreed to become volunteers, my wife worked tirelessly for seven and a half years in the kitchen. I also did washing up, washing floors and cooking / serving also.

We left the club over a nasty occurrence and have had nothing further to do with it since.

The locals and George Pike put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into that club and now when I see what is being attempted, there is no way I can sit back and watch.

I am said to be a trouble maker – however I can always back up what I say and there is no doubt, that there are trouble makers in our community who are behind it.

Rumour also has it that the club is running at a loss. This is not true, while it cost them a significant amount in 2012 to adhere to government legislative regulations. This was caused by past management not adhering to the regulations (Corporate Governance Regulations).

The club is moving ahead and is financial; however, you as residents should be aware of what is going on in your area. Don't forget, clubs

such as this one are kept running by volunteers, you can be one and meet your neighbours and new friends.

The Glasshouse Country RSL Sub Branch is running well and there is absolutely no consideration for the Club to close. We enjoy great community support and our volunteers operate the Club in a friendly and effective manner.

Responding to ‘War of the Worlds’ In reference to letter in January 23 edition of GCNews.

I would like an idea of how long Belinda has been living on the main route through Glass House and has had her lifestyle so harshly impacted upon by these ‘monster trucks’. I would hazard a guess it was after the quarry was established.

The quarry has restrictions for trucks using the local road before 6.00am and after 6.00pm so it is only the bark business or farm trucks that would operate before and after these times.

As for the size and amount of the trucks, doubles are the largest that are allowed on the east side of Toowoomba without special permits to the Port of Brisbane, and if you have ever followed the majority of these trucks, their maximum speed is 50km/hr, so they ‘fly’ around corners slower than local traffic.

It takes approximately five - six minutes to load each quarry truck and there are only two loaders on-site. Halving your 40 trucks an hour is a more realistic figure.

As our family with two small children lives along this corridor, I would like to say that although we hear these heavy vehicles daily, it is no more or less hazardous to our ears or health than having the train line running through Glass House.

I can only hope that you don’t wage war on the supply trains that travel 24 hours a day, banging and crashing along the tracks or we may all be living in the dark ages again.

Like all over Australia, there are designated routes that trucks are restricted to use and Coonowrin Road is one of those. Because of this, the quarry pays for the upkeep and maintenance of the road.

Looking at the state of other local roads, we are very fortunate indeed.

Perhaps a little more research would lessen the drama in your letter and if you could declare war on the hoons that plague the same area, you could do some good for the locals.

Why is this happening?

Having just read the article in GCNews, January 16 edition ‘Caution about water use in dry weather’ I must offer that it would have been nice if the article mentioned that 45 Mega Litres a day is being piped out and sent to North Pine Dam. Why this is happening.... I don’t know! There is no water shortage anywhere in the Brisbane environs.

Ewen Maddock supply is being pumped via a no return pipeline. And we’re the only dam currently supplying the grid by this obscene amount!

So I question the validity of the usage figures per person per day. I would even hazard a guess to say that since 2011 just about every coast resident re-evaluated their personal water usage and has maintained it since. Much to the regret of Unity Water.

We’ve contacted Minister McAardle over two weeks ago for his comments but as usual no reply. Perhaps he would be forthcoming with GCNews. Perhaps you should request a comment from him? How can it be justified to still take this amount of water every day after such a great amount was released prior to December 2012 to allow work on the dam wall? The forecasted rain hasn’t come. Surely someone, somewhere realises that’s time to turn off the pump?

Seqwater replied that approximately seven megalitres per day of water is being supplied from Ewen Maddock Dam for the Caloundra region only.

“No water is being transferred from Ewen Maddock Dam to Brisbane,” said a Seqwater spokesperson.

“In accordance with Seqwater’s Annual Operations Plan, if Baroon Pocket Dam falls to 60 per cent of its capacity, then we will start supplying water from North Pine Dam as far north as Noosa.

“Water is moved from water treatment plant to water treatment plant, rather than from dam to dam.

“As an integrated treated water supply network, our water supplies, storages and treatment plants are connected across South East Queensland from Noosa in the north, to Coolangatta in the south.

This means that bulk water can be moved to where it is needed most.

“The figures produced for water supply consumption are based upon treated water supply to households in a region. These consumption figures are developed to ensure the figures represent the consumption that occurs only in that region,” the spokesperson from Seqwater concluded.

Mark McArdle has confirmed the information supplied to us by Seqwater.

How well do we support the arts in our nation?

I consider on this Australia Day weekend that it is timely to reflect on the lamentable attitude many Australians have to the arts and culture in our country. Australia’s most esteemed playwright David Williamson recently spoke on this subject and a short discussion of his presentation can be found at http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/they-kill-us-for-their-sportwilliamson-laments-arts-funding-cuts-20121115-29ejt.html Williamson attacks the nation’s huge spending on sports while a 'pittance' is spent developing the arts. He notes that 'the arts sector contributes $30 billion a year to GDP – more than agriculture, forestry and fishing combined.' He bemoans the cuts to the higher education system, where, not surprisingly, the arts are generally the first to feel the hurt.

Having spent eight years in academia, I strongly support his argument - the constant threats and cuts and how our department could adapt to them, were an ever present thorn in our side.

Williamson says 'In creative pursuits…it's actually doing the activity, and getting precise and informed feedback from talented teacher-practitioners that enables a student to flourish.'

In the 1990s music departments were dealing with the removal of 'one to one' teaching from the syllabus. We found creative ways around that, but ultimately students lost out, and of course the arts and culture of the nation was the biggest loser - many of our best teachers, students and artists simply had to look elsewhere for the opportunity denied to them at home.

If you are interested in the state of the arts and culture in our nation, do read the discussion of Williamson’s presentation. It is short but makes salient points. The more of us who think and talk about it the deeper it will reach and perhaps begin to touch some of those ‘powers that be’ out there who can do something about it.

There is not the space here to list the immeasurable riches arts and culture brings to the community. Not just for our youth, whose education depends on it, nor our seniors whose creative pursuits are based on it, but for everyone else out there rushing around trying to keep up with life’s many demands. We can certainly do our bit in the community at the grass roots level. Why not support an arts group, even if you are not an active practitioner and encourage others to take part? That’s a good start!

The Maleny Scottish Country Dancing group would like to invite interested newcomers to a free ‘Come and Try’ night on Monday, February 11 at the Maleny Presbyterian Church Hall in Cedar Street, Maleny.

The evening will be run by experienced accredited teacher, Deanne Corps of Mapleton. Deanne has 30 years experience in dancing and is in demand to teach at various dance schools throughout the country.

Scottish Country Dancing is not highland dancing and is more akin to folk dancing, being danced in sets of eight, therefore it is not necessary to bring a partner.

For me, living in the Glasshouse Country region still feels like living in a big country town where everyone knows each other and I know that’s why many locals love living here.

So picking up a pizza at Eagle Boys in Beerwah and knowing that I will possibly be served by or see one of the nine family members from three generations of the Fraser / Dobbie family who run the business, is a great feeling.

They opened their Eagle Boys and Video Ezy stores 13 years ago and while they are both franchises, they pride themselves on running them like any other family owned business.

Depending on the weather, it will take about two weeks to complete the work that will improve the connection to the local pathway network and enhance the safe operation of local businesses.

The design will also improve the general visual appeal of the retail precinct and nearby entry to the town centre - I hope you like the results.

Beerburrum-Woodford Road

The Beerburrum-Woodford Road is an old forestry logging track that many of us use to get to Glasshouse and Beerwah. Council is installing a double line down the centre of the road from Beerburrum to Old Gympie Road intersection in February. There will also be yellow pavement markers (cat’s eyes) to help guide drivers at night. Council is regularly monitoring traffic behaviour and the Police are patrolling the area to encourage safe driving.

Your submissions

There was a huge amount of interest from the community during consultation on the Draft Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme. Council met and spoke to over 5,000 people and received more than 2,500 formal submissions. The submission period is now closed and I have locked away a few days with the full council to review all of the submissions received.

I will keep you posted on the general feedback from Division 1 and how council will be incorporating your feedback into a revised scheme. Thank you to everyone who made a submission and for putting your thoughts forward on how the region could be developed into the future.

San Taekwondo’s recent grading showed the skill of some of the top Taekwondo athletes in the region, as well as some up-and-coming stars.

Cameron Taylor and Christian Thorpe both graded for their third dan black belt after many years of dedicated training. Christian has been training for 10 years for his third dan and has been training for 19 years in total. Cameron has been training for four years for this grading and a total of 13 years. Cameron is ranked number 83 in Australia, and also this year started his own classes in Beerwah and Mooloolah after gaining his personal trainer qualifications and spending three months training at a University in South Korea.

Sign On Welcome back to the start of a new tennis season. We hope you all had a great break and are looking forward to getting back into the swing of tennis.

The Friday night Autumn competition for juniors up to 18 years will kick off late February / March.

Sign on for the season will be held on Friday, February 8 from 4.00pm – 6.00pm at the Landsborough Tennis courts. All players intending to register for the Autumn Friday competition are required to sign up. Courts will be open for a hit of tennis, with a free sausage sizzle as well, so come along for the afternoon and have some fun.

The competition is open to all levels of experience. The club strongly encourages new players to participate in coaching lessons, which are available at the courts during the weekdays. Players are also welcome to become members of the Landsborough tennis club which entitles them to free court hire at any time during the day so they may practice.

I normally use this space to introduce desirable garden plants, pointing out their benefits and providing a few growing tips. However, sometimes I come across a plant that I want to write about which is commonly grown, though not so desirable. This plant may be an established weed or has weed potential.

Sanchezia is just such a plant. It is a genus of about 20 species of shrubs from the Acanthaceae family.

Several of the species were introduced into Australia Sanchezia parvibracteata from South America as a tropical and subtropical garden plant due to their spectacular foliage. Unfortunately they have jumped the fence to establish themselves in wet rainforests throughout Queensland.

The plants have colourful stems and large showy leaves, variegated in yellow, green and white. Some species also put on an impressive display of flowers.

They are useful to fill spaces in larger gardens as they look great from a distance, fitting in with palms, gingers and philodendrons.

Some Sanchezia species can also be grown as a houseplant as long as they are subject to high humidity.

Cultivation of Sanchezia is easy which is why it has become a problem.

They require a well-drained, relatively fertile soil and will flourish if a large amount of leaf litter or mulch is present. They do require a regular water supply and will let you know quickly if they are lacking their supply. Frosts can damage the foliage but will not kill the plant unless the soil becomes frozen.

Sanchezia propagate by seed, cuttings or suckering. Any stem section containing a node will sprout roots if discarded in a moist environment (i.e. compost heap).

Do not discard any prunings in the compost pile or the bush. Feed prunings through a chipper or donate them to the council mulching program. Once chipped, the node will not grow.

There is no doubt that Sanchezia make a spectacular statement in a garden but anybody growing it needs to act responsibly as with many common exotic plants.

Alternative plants should be selected if there is a risk of Sanchezia escaping from your garden into neighbouring bushland. Try Strobilanthes (from the same family), Crotons or Cordylines to achieve the variegated tropical look.

The power of a dream

Booker T. Washington was born an American slave in 1858, his childhood years were anything but pleasant. The family’s farm cabin had no glass windows, and any opening to let in light. The floor of the cabin was dirt. Starting out he had no money, no education, no training, no influence, and no future. He was just another slave among thousands, with no potential other than living out his life working in obscurity on a forgotten Southern farm.

But in spite of that desperate situation, young Booker dreamed of an education.

As a result of believing in a dream, he not only attended school, but was later asked to lead a new program in Alabama called the Tuskegee

Institute. He eventually built Tuskegee into a major college campus with more than 1,500 students and a faculty of 200 professors.

Booker T. Washington’s dream opened doors, filled him with motivation, and revealed his true promise. Millions of people have been directly touched or indirectly inspired by his story, because he never gave up on his dream.

If you feel that your situation is hopeless, just remember Booker T. Washington and start dreaming again. Psalm 37:4 ‘Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.’

Contributed by Br John Stevenson The Alpha course is an inspirational ‘catechetical’ program suited to anyone who wants to explore the Christian faith. Whether you are a nonChristian wanting to explore what Christianity is about, or a practicing Christian wanting deeper understanding and re-invigoration of your spiritual life, Alpha is for you! Having recently completed the course myself, what struck me was the growth in confidence of those involved. People who at the beginning of Alpha where reluctant to talk about their faith, were wanting to be prayed for and praying for others as well as for the gifts of the Holy Spirit by the end of the Alpha course.

As Christians we are often reticent to evangelise and share our faith. While there is no quick fix for this, the Alpha course is, I believe, another valuable tool in our ‘spiritual tool box’ in not only energising our own spiritual life, but equipping us to share the Gospel with others and do our share in the building up of God’s Kingdom.

The Alpha program is presented by the Rev’d Nicky Gumble on DVD each week in a series of engaging and thought provoking talks covering the following topics, which people are then free to discuss in the small groups afterwards before sharing in a fellowship meal: Week 1: Who is Jesus?

Week 2: Why did Jesus Die? Week 3: How can we have Faith?

Week 4: Why and how do I Pray?

Week 5: Why and how should I Read the Bible?

Week 6: How does God Guide us?
