Prep open day

Cricket the big winner

Contributed by Deb Lawrence, deputy principal Beerwah State School opened its doors recently inviting prospective parents to come and see how the staff work together to provide our prep students with a strong foundation for the rest of their schooling. Parents reported to staff how wonderful it was to see for themselves such a welcoming and calm environment offered at Beerwah. They saw firsthand how the school offers a range of learning experiences that develops and ignites creativity and imagination. The current prep students showed the pre-preps a typical day in the prep room and also supported them to feel more comfortable about coming to school next year. If you are looking to enrol your child in 2020 and missed the open day, please come along to our prep information session on Tuesday, November 5 at either 9am or 5pm. Please phone the school to find out more on 5436 5555.

Contributed by Jill Forster Glasshouse Districts Cricket Club (GDCC) recently announced the introduction of a junior girls’ and women’s teams for the 2019/2020 season - the first time in the club’s long history. So far we have enough players for a full women’s team but we still need to recruit a number of girls to make up a team. Given that the club has never fielded a female team before, we are currently fundraising to help cover the costs of sourcing the specific equipment and clothing needed, and to help cover other fees associated with getting the women’s and girls’ season up and running. To help keep these costs low and encourage as many females to enjoy the great game of cricket across the Glasshouse district, the club is running our fourth Play for Purpose raffle, which closes on Tuesday, October 15. Play for Purpose is the ultimate not-for-profit raffle, where ticket holders go in the draw to win a share in 7,525 prizes valued at $500,000 with a $250,000 first prize! A one in 34 chance of winning a prize and $5 from every $10 worth of tickets you buy going directly to GDCC’s women’s program makes it the ultimate win-win raffle! With only two weeks to go until the raffle closes, make sure you get in quick before it sells out. Since participating in the club’s first Play for Purpose raffle back in February, GDCC supporters have won almost $500 worth of prizes. Could you be our next big winner? If our club sells the ticket that wins the $250,000 first prize, the club will receive a $10,000 bonus! To buy your ticket today go to https://playforpurpose.com.au/glasshouse-cc. If you would like more information regarding GDCC’s women’s program or our Play for Purpose fundraiser, please contact Jill Forster on 0418 946 252 or ghdcc.secretary@gmail.com. Thanks for your support and good luck in the draw!

How often should I get acupuncture?

A lot of people think that one treatment will give magical relief but the reality is it may take months of treatments, especially in chronic conditions. Here is a quick guide to acupuncture frequency:

Once a week

Mild issues Pain 25% of the time Wellness and prevention Long-term treatment

Twice a week

Moderate issues Pain 50% of the time Chronic conditions

Three times a week

Moderate/severe issues Pain 75% of the time Near the end of your rope

Daily

Severe pain Pain 100% of the time Acute conditions

Acupuncture is cumulative … Each treatment builds on the last, so keep coming. Skipping too many treatments may hamper your progress. Stick with it … Get treatment several days in a row when the pain is stuck or you reinjure or aggravate your condition. We’re not psychic … We can’t predict how you will respond. True healing takes time and patience. We need you to listen to your body and come as often as you need. Don’t give up on us, as we’re certainly not giving up on you. Remember … SOME acupuncture is better than NO acupuncture. If you can’t make it in as often as you should, don’t sweat it, we will work with you.
