Ben supports welcoming new residents
Glass House Chaplaincy Golf Classic
Lion Clarke Alexander with photographer Ben Messina Local landscape photographer Ben Messina has been a supporter of the Maleny and District Welcome Dinner for several years. This year his photograph, titled Storm over the hinterland and valued at more than $1,350, will be first prize in the raffle to be drawn at the 14th annual Maleny and Blackall Range Lions Welcome Dinner on September 18 at the Maleny Showgrounds pavilion. On the night Ben will also have a display of several other beautiful photos highlighting the hinterland. The raffle, lucky door prizes and an auction are all part of the event, together with four guest speakers and displays from local community
groups, and a lovely buffet meal prepared by The Orangery Maleny. Newcomers who attend will learn more about the local area they now call home and the many things it has to offer. They will also take home an information bag and plants donated by Barung Landcare, which will form part of the table decoration on the night. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased from Maleny Optical, shop 8, Riverside Centre, 8 Maple Street, Maleny and MAD (Maleny Art Direct), 21 Maple Street, Maleny. Get in early to avoid disappointment. For further information call Clarke Alexander on 5494 4981.
Glass House Mountains State School’s annual Chaplaincy Golf Classic will, for the fourth year running, be held at Beerwah Golf Club on September 6. The event, which is proudly brought to the community by the Glass House Mountains P&C committee, aims to raise much needed funds to support the school’s chaplaincy program. Pastor Aaron Jackson, from Church on the Rise Beerwah, says the school’s chaplain Tania Byers provides a valued support for students and families at the school, helping navigate through sometimes difficult times. “The chaplaincy program provides an important support to the students, particularly to those who are new, or are going through difficult times,” he said. “Chappy Tania helps support students through the challenges of life and runs a number of workshops and one-on-one support to help engage and offer a new perspective”. It is set to be a fun day out on the course following a four-ball Ambrose format over 18 holes. The event includes carts, golfing prizes and a presentation at the completion of the round with lunch and nibbles included. The day will conclude with a charity auction. Participants can register as an individual or team of four, and businesses can buy a sponsorship package, which includes exclusive rights for advertising material. The day kicks off at 10.45am for a shot gun start at 12noon. For a fun day out while raising money for a great cause, be sure to register by September 1 by emailing glasshousegolfday@gmail.com or phone 5494 0655.
