The Blackall Range Visual Artists invite friends, patrons, visitors and even doubters to remind themselves through paintings and drawings that many of the beautiful things we hold dear are now in danger of extinction due to climate change. The artists are keen to express how important it is for humans to acknowledge it is time for humans to start to care more about our planet. Friends of Mary Cairncross Association With Charne Turner The sounds of spring have arrived in the rainforest with the return of seasonal birds courting, ready to build their nests and the joyous chorusing of frogs from the ponds. The new theme in the Discovery Centre is Birds on Show and it will run for the next few months. Other news includes the book launch on Saturday, November 2 in the centre theatrette of a beautiful new Friends of Mary Cairncross Association publication edited by the late (and great) Les Hall: ‘The Magic of Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve - a Celebration of Art and Nature’. It includes 126 original artworks, with the foreword by Tim Flannery and a preface by Steve Parish. It is destined to be loved by locals and visitors alike. An exhibition of the book’s artworks will be on display at the centre for two weeks following the launch. In the not too distant future, the second edition of the popular book ‘Birds of Mary Cairncross’, which has recently been out of print, will hit the shelves. The Friends of Mary Cairncross Association’s AGM will be held at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve at 9.30am on Saturday, October 19. All members and interested people are welcome. Members are reminded that the annual fee of $10 is due in October. The Friends of Mary Cairncross Association aims to protect and enhance the natural environment of the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve.
