Sport Contributed by Pauline Fraley Although the score for the Witta Wagtails was not in their favour, a good day was had at Eumundi. Congratulations to Eumundi’s Miss Gems on their win. The Whistlers had the bye. The Wildcats travelled to Nambour Showgrounds to compete against old friends Nambas Champers. It’s always a good battle but unfortunately Pauline Fraley, Annie Stewart, Stacey English and Libby Howlett just didn’t quite make it across the line. We’ll get them next time. Social tennis is on Monday 8am and Saturday 1pm. All welcome. For court bookings phone 0437 295 501 or go to the website www. wittatennis.com.au.
The Range Croquet Club Contributed by Ken Baker A visit from Ken Woodward from Headland Buderim club resulted in an enjoyable threesome on the lawn on Thursday, February 21, with Gillian Bradley pairing up with him to challenge Ken Barker to a short game of association. They played well but Ken had a couple of lucky breaks to creep home 8–2. Donna Manning and Nick Cram did the club proud by playing in the Mary Masters tournament on Saturday and Sunday, February 23-24. Both struggled with the hoops as did many other players in the tournament. Rosemary Newsham of Stephens club won the overall event, George Oliver from Coolum the plate and Don McGillivray of Bundaberg the consolation event. Thank you to Bribie for hosting the event. On Sunday, February 24, Vince Carbery played Stuart Craig and Val Carbery winning 11–10. Sarah Widin and Ken won against Kath Smith and Helen Andrews 15–6. Nick Cram (in photo) is a picture of concentration and a study in balance, doing a long take-off with the black ball to his opponent on the other side of the lawn in the Mary Masters competition at Bribie. Coaching for beginners and others is available on the picturesque lawns at the bottom of the Maleny Showground from 8-10 am on Saturdays. These are popular sessions in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Play days are 2.10pm for 2.30pm on Thursdays and Sundays. For details contact president Vince Carbery on 5494 2193, or secretary Priscilla Vickers on 5494 3555.
