Maleny Golf Club Contributed by Jenny Oxenham Tuesday, June 25: Maleny Golf Club held a twoperson, 18-hole ambrose competition with first place going to the team of Stephen Porter and Grant Flynn with a score of 67.5, runners up Niel Cronk and Doug Johnstone with 67.75 and third place to David Durack and Rod Waldron with 68.5. NTPs: 3 - John Hay, 8 - Doug Johnstone and 13 - Merv Schulz. Saturday, June 29: The club held an 18-hole men’s monthly medal competition. A grade first place went to Mike Finley with a score of 69 nett, runner up Thomas Hallam with 70 nett and third to Corey Zammit with 71 nett. B grade first place to Allan Bridge 67 nett, runner up Paul Viertel 70 nett on a count back from Dave Nielsen with 70 nett, third Mike Hallam 71 nett. C grade first place John Cassidy 62 nett, runner up Mark Green 68 nett on a count back from Stan Toleman 68 nett, and third Tom Bertwistle 70 nett. Gross winner Thomas Hallam with the score
of 75 nett. NTPs: 3 - Thomas Hallam, 5 - Peter Gilbert, 8 - Kristofer Minns and 13 - Grant Flynn. The results are slim this week because of the inclement weather but we should be back to sunshine and golf next week (I hope). Mention must be made about the many volunteers who come along rain, hail or shine to contribute towards the completion of our 18 holes by Christmas. If you would like to come along and play eight or 12 holes of golf and enjoy our magnificent golf course, just go to our website www.malenygolfclub.com or phone the clubhouse on 5499 9960 to book in for a game.
Maleny Bowls Club Contributed by Graeme Glover The highlight of the week for the Maleny Bowls Club was the difficulty the rain made getting any games completed. Monday monthly pairs was played and won by our visitors from Kilcoy Bowls Club. Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to all who played. It was great to see so many new faces representing Maleny in this monthly challenge event. It is hoped that they all become regular participants. These types of events are the best way to make big improvements in your game. Wednesday was a wash out but we look forward to seeing all teams this week for the delayed
start of the next round. All welcome at 6pm for 6.30pm start. Friday Scroungers was a mix of good bowls and some damp weather. Feedback about the rule changes is very positive. It was noticeable that all folks were using a variety of shots and different strategies. This will certainly add to the fun and decision-making about risk and reward. Thanks to Jim King and Miles Allen who sought feedback from many players and are refreshing our Friday competition with some scoring and rule adjustments. Some folks feel it will improve their mathematics as well as bowls. All the best to our team representing the club at the weekend carnival in Kilcoy and Mapleton on Monday. On the championship front rain has claimed another victim in the final of the pairs. All the best to the players in this final. A reminder about nominations for remaining games. Please note requirements as per original mailout by coordinator Miles Allen. Any concerns contact Jim Weidman or Graeme Glover. Keep an eye out for the new Sunday bowls format. Members and visitors welcome with information available from Jim King or at the club.
