Landsborough cross country
Maleny Bowls Club
Contributed by Kylie Merola Monday, March 25 saw Landsborough State School host its annual cross country event. Students ran races in their respective age groups in an endeavour to be selected in the school team to compete at the district carnival at St Michael’s College on Friday, April 26. Students from all year levels had the chance to race for participation and fun. At the end of the day the overall winning house for 2019 was Flinders. It was an excellent day. The next Landsborough carnival is the athletics carnival on Friday, May 3 at Skippy Park.
Contributed by Miles Allen Our monthly pair’s competition was held on Monday, March 27 with players from Mapleton, Kilcoy, Woodford and Caboolture Lakes joining us for a very pleasant social afternoon chasing the big prize money. Each pair played two games and the day’s winners, the team from Kilcoy, had two wins and the highest number of points. Runners up were one of the Maleny teams. The monthly jackpot is in four figures but no team was able to claim it. Maleny Bowls Club has an enviable reputation for providing delicious lunches and afternoon teas. This month Kay Gesch, with the help of other members again maintained our reputation. Eager tasters arrived early to ensure the food was of the highest quality for our visitors and Relma Godfrey again supplied her delicious pumpkin scones. After a very busy time at the club in the previous week, we were able to take it a bit easier last week due to the rain. We have a big advantage with our artificial green in that it drains and dries out a lot quicker than if it was grass. Although it doesn’t need cutting (surprise surprise!) it does need cleaning and rolling. The weather on Friday was perfect for our weekly Scroungers competition. The threat of rain didn’t deter us from turning up to chase the jack. The winners were Kathy King, Joe Walters, Don Ginns, Brett Gillis and Mick Bulger. Last week we had 60 visitors using the club for a large function. As one of them said: “This club has everything you need for a get-together for friends, for businesses, for colleagues and for any occasion when you want great service and great facilities at a reasonable price. And of course you can also have a lot of fun on the green.” It seems as though some cooler weather is on its way so we might see even more players this week, particularly those who don’t like it too hot.

Temperament: Koda is a lovely girl, a little shy at times, but has a gentle temperament. She needs a quieter home, perhaps with a retired person or couple. Koda seems to be OK around most dogs she meets, but may prefer to live as the only dog. This girl enjoys her daily walks and is quite light on leash.

Contributed by Ken Baker Bev Sockhill and Vince Carbery teamed up last Thursday to play a friendly game against Sally Adams and Gillian Bradley with no scores recorded. However, it was noted that Bev peeled for the first time in her playing career. This feat is carried out by putting your partner’s ball through its hoop when it is not the striker ball (the ball that you are hitting with your mallet). Saturday, March 23 saw Donna Manning and Sarah Widin in a coaching session preparing for the pennants season, which will be upon us next month. Sunday, March 24 saw a pleasant return to form by Nick Cram who played well to beat Ken Barker 18-7. Both are preparing for the Sunshine Coast regional tournament, with their game to be played on our lawns on April 9-10. Spectators are welcome. Coaching for beginners and others is available on the picturesque lawns at the bottom of the Maleny Showground from 8-10am on Saturdays. These are popular sessions in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Play days are on Thursdays and Sundays at 2.10pm for a 2.30pm start. For details contact president Vince Carbery on 5494 2193 or secretary Priscilla Vickers 5494 3555.
