Contributed by Brenda Briese Saturday, September 14 was a stableford with a field of 26 players. The winner was Michelle Wormwell 37 points from Sue Williamson 34 points. NTPs: 2 - Jo Malone, 16 - Sue Williamson, 18 Heather Henn (second shot). Ball run down went to 33 pts. Thursday, September 19 was versus par competition with 41 ladies. As the greens on the back nine were being renovated we played the front nine twice. The front nine greens were already cored, so putting was a bit "hit and hope". However one lady didn't seem to be troubled as she had her first hole in one on the fifth hole which was very exciting! Congratulations Helen Lewis. Division one winner Val Turner +2 from Helen Lewis -2. Division two winner was Karen Madsen +3 from Josie Thistlethwaite +2. NTPs: 2 - Toni Grant. 5 Helen Lewis (HIO), 2 - Lea Garner, 5 - Carol Cork. Ball run down went to -2. Karen Madsen has very kindly sponsored any holesin-one for the year, thank you Karen.

Maleny Bowls Club
Contributed by Graeme Glover Spring has sprung and so have a number of bowlers who come out in the warmer weather. Weather, and in particular the dry, is impacting on many bowls clubs and their ability to prepare a lovely grass green. The decision a number of years ago to convert to an artificial green, while controversial has enabled us to play all year, both night and day as well as reduce our maintenance costs to virtually zero thanks to volunteer labour component. Maleny Bowls club is not unique in having volunteers but from my visits to other clubs it seems that those clubs who are well served by volunteers, no matter what the activity, are progressing better financially. Any small assistance helps to lighten the load. Thanks to our band of helpers. Congratulations to Jim King, Jim Weidman and Graeme Glover who were successful at the Woodford Pub day following on from their previous week’s win in Kilcoy. Thanks to all those members who have signed up for our monthly pairs on Monday. We have eight visiting teams, so a great day of bowls should be able to be reported in the next edition. Wednesday night sees the front runners Dave Edwards, Ian Spence and Steve Ellet continue their winning form. With only two weeks to go are they set for a big win in the absence of regular Ian Dickson. Friday Scroungers saw Brett Gillis return to the winners circle. Richard Bond and Jim King also came to the attention of the handicapper for their winning form. A reminder to all about getting teams in for the Mitre 10, Maleny Paint sponsored Scotty Fawkes Day Sunday, October 13. 40
