Contributed by Ken Barker The club second division championship was played on Thursday with Nick Cram finishing second and Ken Barker winning it. The open division will be played this week, July 18-19. Third and fourth division will be played on July 20-21. Visitor Wendy from Macedon club in Victoria played association on lawn two with Wallace Roy and Bev Sockhill. They were joined part way through by Frances Harper. On Sunday Val Carbery and Stuart Craig paired up to get a turnabout game of association going with Wallace Roy and Sarah Widin. Vince Carbery played Ken in a game of singles showing some welcome good form. Unfortunately, Wallace had to retire hurt from the former game and both games were stopped at the tea break by rain. No scores were recorded. Donna Manning travelled away for a wet weekend in Murwillumbah to play very well and be runner up in the Gold Coast women’s championship against some very strong opposition. All hands were on deck for the Lochwood game against Nambour on Wednesday, July 10. Ken won a mistake riddled game against Theo Kleiberg 16–10. Nick went down in a close game to Eileen Kleiberg 17–18. With the game scores at one all Vince and Nick teamed up to win the doubles 17–13 and the round 2-1 games. Thanks to Donna and Val for refereeing.

Vince (above) contemplating whether he will try to make hoop two with the pink ball. He does this while waiting for the blue ball from another game to do the same. Blue does not have as difficult a decision as it is in line with the hoop and black, its partner ball, is behind. The pink is a trickier shot so Vince had to choose – does he try for the hoop and run the risk of losing control of the game or does he abandon the break and go back to his partner ball? He played and made the hoop – a brave decision that paid off. Coaching for beginners and others is available on the picturesque lawns at the bottom of the Maleny Showgrounds from 8-10am on Saturdays. These are popular sessions in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Play days are on Thursdays and Sundays at 1pm for 1.30pm. For details contact president Vince Carbery on 5494 2193 or secretary Priscilla Vickers 5494 3555. Our website is https://rangecroquetatmaleny.org.au.
