The Range Croquet Club Contributed by Ken Barker Benign weather conditions are luring people to Maleny Showgrounds to enjoy the lawns, which appreciated the rain over Christmas. When there is a south-easterly, lawn one, the Eileen Harrison lawn, may well be the most pleasant place in Maleny and even possibly in the south east. Thursday, January 2 saw Donna Manning and Helen Andrews fight Kath Smith to a six-all draw. Ken Barker played Nick Cram beating him 17–6 in a game where Nick seemed to have all of the bad luck and Ken the good. The wheel always turns as far as luck goes. On Sunday, January 5 Helen and Ken played Donna and Kath in a topsy turvy game where players looked like having good breaks ahead then missed three-foot roquets. After a pleasant cup of tea it was decided to resume play briefly and the final score ended up with Ken and Helen on 15 and Donna and Kath on 11. A visit from the Range Care group on Tuesday, January 7 went well with 17 guests relishing the beautiful conditions on the lawn. Coaching for beginners and others is available from 8-10 am on Saturdays. These are popular sessions with accredited coaches in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Play days are Thursdays and Sundays at 2pm for 2.30pm.
