CALF INVESTMENT SCHEME The Department of Agriculture’s Calf Investment Scheme (CIS) is 40% grant aided and applications are open from the 7th January until 28th January 2020. The following provides a guide on what is included in the programme and how farmers can apply. Who can apply? The Scheme is open to dairy and suckler farmers who meet the following criteria: • Are aged 18 or over • Hold a Department herd number • Prior to submitting the CIS application have a minimum of 5 hectares of “eligible land” declared under the 2019 Basic Payment Scheme

How can you apply? Application forms are available in your local Glanbia branch. Application forms can also be downloaded online by visiting agriculture.gov.ie and submit complete application forms by email only to CIS@agriculture.gov.ie

What purchases are eligible? The scheme is only open to purchases of certain items of equipment. There is a minimum spend of €1,000 required and a cap of €7,500 All purchases must be completed and a valid claim for payment received by the Department by 30th June 2020. To qualify the farmer must have fully paid for the purchase and have taken possession and control of the purchase. The third party financing of an investment by lease or hire purchase is not allowed.

The following categories are eligible for grant aid under the scheme. Please note that you must choose at least one investment item from Category A before choosing any items from the Category B list. Band A

• Calf teat feeder with minimum 6 teat places • Computerised calf feeder (Also eligible for Glanbia’s Fundequip scheme) • Milk Cart with mixer

Band B

• Calf milk heater • Calf forage /hay rack • Calf meal trough • Calf feed barrier • Calf pen dividers

How is the Grant Aid calculated? Grant aid per purchased item will be calculated based on the lowest of the following amounts: • The Department’s Reference Costings applicable at the date of approval. • The cost of the investment proposed by the applicant as indicated on their application form. • The total of the eligible invoices marked “paid”, excluding VAT; subject to the maximum payment ceiling of €7,500. The closing date for applications (by email only) is January 28th, and farmers can download the application form through the DAFM’s website.
