What’s Happening Highway 271 Car Cruise
The Highway 271 Progressive Car Cruise will be Saturday, April 11. The event starts Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m. with music in Mt. Pleasant. Saturday’s registration and breakfast is 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in Mt. Pleasant. Pittsburg snack stop is from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Lunch is in Gilmer noon until 1:30 p.m. and the event culminates in Gladewater with dessert and awards from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Registration forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce.
Broadway event to fight childhood cancer
Broadway elementary students will hold their Alex’s Lemonade Stand fundraiser to combat childhood cancer on May 15 during their annual field day. Shirts will be available to the public for $10 starting in April and were designed by Audra Thomas’ design class. Donations of cases of water for the event would be greatly appreciated. Talent Showcase this Saturday
The Gladewater Center for the Arts 2015 Talent Show will be held Saturday, April 4 at 7 p.m. The adult entry fee is $100 with cash prizes to be award for first through third places. The high school entry fee is $25 with trophies awarded first through third places. All acts must be appropriate for family audiences. No auditions will be held. Rehearsal will be held Saturday, April 4, 11 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Due to space, time and equipment constraints bands will not be allowed to participate. CDs are allowed for accompaniment only. The use of batons, pyrotechnics, live animals or dangerous equipment will be prohibited. Performance categories include singing, dancing, instrumentals, poetry, readings, comedy, drama skits and novelty acts. GLADEWATER SPRING BEAUTIFICATION DAY SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 2015 8:00 a.m. until noon Gladewater residents may deposit bulky household garbage items into dumpsters located along E. Commerce Street downtown. Prohibited items include paint, shingles, batteries, chemicals, refrigeration items, and commercial waste. In addition, there will be a trailer provided for used tire disposal and recycling. Curbside pick-up will be provided for senior citizens and the disabled. To take advantage of this service call the Gladewater Public Works Department at 903-845-2586 no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10th. Volunteers will assemble at the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce, located at 215 N. Main Street, at 8:00 a.m. and they will be dispersed with trash bags to clean up neighborhoods throughout town. At noon all volunteers are invited to a free hot dog lunch sponsored by the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce.
