CBM’s Les Wakeling named Maintenance Manager of the Year By Adam Ledlow NORTH YORK, Ont. – Les Wakeling has cemented his place in the Canadian Fleet Maintenance Seminar history books with his selection as the 2011 Canadian Fleet Maintenance Manager of the Year. Wakeling, who ser ves as Canadian Building Materials’ director of operations, ready-mix, was honoured during a special luncheon at the annual Canadian Fleet Maitnenance Seminar in Markham May 10. The award, sponsored by Volvo Trucks Canada, goes to a Canadian fleet maintenance manager who stands out based on their scheduled maintenance program, quality and frequency of training programs, major accomplishments or innovations and contributions to their industry or community. By James Menzies MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Taking on the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario is the classic David and Goliath scenario. However, they do make mistakes and when they do, they are beatable. That was the message from lawyers Cezanne Charlebois and Paul Harris of Charlebois Associates during a recent Driving for Profit seminar. “Many employers are not aware they have a great deal of power to deal with incorrectly adjudicated decisions at WSIB,” Charlebois, whose firm is an employer advocate of sorts when dealing with unfair WSIB decisions. “There’s always much more that can be done than you could imagine.” Harris echoed that point, noting “There’s often a sense in the employer community that you’re helpless; that you can’t fight City Hall.
