Glacier Guides Trip Difficulty Rating System Based on the collective experience of our guests and guides we have come up with a rating system specific to our terrain. Also loosely based on other rating systems this will give you an idea of what the trip difficulty level is.
None of our trips require any previous glacier experience!!! Glacier Guides Rating System ranges from 1 to 5. 1-2. Easy
All ages above 10 years old. Someone in fair walking condition, able to walk for 2 hours, with short brakes, at low pace 1.5 - 2km/h. Trails generally in good condition, glacier travel on generally very low angle. Very little elevation gain, max 250m over 2km distance. Svartifoss hike is 150m elevation gain over 2km round trip.

All ages above 15 years old. For someone in good hiking condition, able to walk for 4 hours at low/moderate pace 2-3km/h. Trails generally in good condition, glacier travel partly on uneven ground. Increased elevation gain +300m over 3km distance.
For all ages above 18 years old. For someone in good hiking condition. Trails generally in good conditions, some off the path travel, glacier travel mostly on uneven ground with some challenging sections. Significantly increased elevation gain. Increased distance
For someone in very good hiking condition, able to walk for 10-15 hours at moderate pace 2-4km/h. Large sections of off the trail travel, glacier travel on uneven and snow-covered terrain. Significant increase in elevation, 1000 - 2000m over 1024km distance. Some technical difficulty should be expected.
