5TH YEAR THESIS
This project delves into Kirkland’s upzoning plan, termed ‘NE 85th St. Code Revisions,’ which aims to transform the city from a suburban state to a transit-oriented, densely populated, mixed-use residential zone. This significant transit investment is expected to enhance regional connectivity. The project also intends to explore how mixed-use development can further promote walkability amid urban renewal.

TYPOLOGY MIXED USE HIGH-RISE SITE LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
DESIGN INSTRUCTOR STEPHEN PHILLIPS WINTER + SPRING 2022
Elusive Pixelation is a mixed-use high-rise located next to MacArthur Park. The building responds to it’s unique site condition through it’s expressive facades, bridge gardens, and exansive plaza. The perforated screens act as visual interest as well as creating varying levels of privacy in the building’s outdoor terraces. The public plaza in front of the building is meant as an extension to MacArthur Park and is heavily populated by street vendors that occupy the location currently.

The purpose of the Water Research Center is to serve as the source of potable water for Allensworth University and the surrounding San Pedro community. It’s location at the mouth of the Port of Los Angeles makes it ideality sited for this purpose. This process that turns salt water into drinking water is proposed as an alternative water source. Furthermore, the project also functions as a research and learning facility for students seeking to learn about water.

FALL 2020
This project is inspired by the intricate quadrilateral patterns on the Masai Giraffe, Tanzania’s National animal. The complex geometries on the patterns on the Masai giraffe is then translated in the project’s structural systems for the roof and the cloistered outdoor area. As well, the geometries give form to the project’s four distinct massings.
SPRING 2020
This project explores the question of how hermits -- people who actively shut out society -- can still have a sense of community. By creating two rows of non-facing townhouses connected by a central platform, a dialogue between valued privacy and sense of belonging is formed. The compound offers delightful moments for its unique users such as the intimate and dramaticly lit courtyard under the platform.
