/ REUSE OF TORRE RINALDA / 2023
The idea of transforming Torre Rinalda into a public installation space seemed appealing. The exhibition space created within the tower was conceived as a versatile space, sometimes for displaying sculptures and at other times for holographic shows on the tower walls. This space, where temporary artworks would be exhibited, was one of the main decisions made by us as designers to blend approximately 500 years of history and experience with the art pieces.
In this context, we designed a water cistern on the ground floor of the structure and a staircase surrounding the temporary exhibition area on top of the cistern. This staircase will also serve as an observation point. The opening in the ceiling allows for natural light to illuminate the exhibition area.

Just like inside the tower, we also made some recommendations for the exterior. Considering that some parts of the tower have been ruined and cannot reach the present day, we decided to complete those sections using a special wire material to allow visitors to imagine the tower’s original state. The gaps created by the passage of time on the exterior of the tower were thought of as exhibition elements. Areas were designed within these gaps for exhibition elements, thus transforming the tower into an exhibition piece.
To prevent further damage caused by waves, we created a breakwater and a small pond using additional stone islands, taking inspiration from the shape of the existing rocks. Steps were designed at intervals around the tower to define the surrounding area and create a platform within the tower space. With these steps, visitors can approach the tower without disrupting the natural surroundings.

Interior view of the sculpture named Akdeniz (1980) is a monumental sculpture by Turkish sculptor İlhan Koman, originally erected at Büyükdere Avenue in Istanbul, in 1980. When the sculptor attempted to explain the feeling of a human hug, he thought of the Mediterranean Sea, which he said was the reason behind the name Akdeniz, the Turkish name of the Mediterranean.

/ HOTEL MARQUES DE RISCAL / 2022

For the first impression on the site, it was an abandoned area for a garden. It remembers railway yards and looks like a construction area. As it is not the place that people get together, we can not accept it as a garden. It should have included more features to improve socializing in the site.
