Girl Scout Mission Statement Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. The Girl Scout Promise On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law. The Girl Scout Law I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

With Girls, For Girls: Our strategic blueprint During the 2012-2013 membership year, we began a learning process to refresh the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) strategic blueprint, With Girls, For Girls. The new blueprint will set the stage for continued innovation and inspiration through 2016. In the summer of 2013 a Council Strategy Team comprised of representatives of the board, volunteers, delegates, staff and the community at large researched and strategized what we have accomplished and what we need to accomplish. The team’s efforts resulted in the creation of a Winning Proposition, the piece ofthe strategic plan which clearly states our competitive advantage at GSWISE, and four Key Priorities: Winning Proposition GSWISE brings together all girls to discover the leaders within. Strategic Priorities GIRLS Engaging all girls in relevant programming that focuses on what girls want and need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. VOLUNTEERS Develop a state-of-art model of volunteerism where a diverse group of volunteers can engage easily, are offered continuous learning, and can serve in flexible ways. BRAND Generate broader visibility for the compelling mission of Girl Scouting and the transformative impact of the Girl Scout experience. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS Build collaborative, strategic partnerships which add value to the experience girls receive and strengthen the organization. During 2014, GSWISE staff members will be working in Take Action Teams where they will be creating action plans to move these priorities forward.

2013 Highlights Girls and Pathways  With 28,355 girl members, GSWISE ranked fourth in the nation for market share among 112 Girl Scout councils.  Nearly one in five girls in the GSWISE jurisdiction, an almost 20% overall girl market share, took part in Girl Scouting. Over 25% of these girls were African American or Hispanic.

The overall girl retention rate was 62%.

A total of 7,181 adult members worked primarily as volunteers, with a 62% retention rate.

 With support from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, thirteen GSWISE Girl Scout Junior and Cadette robotics teams participated in First LEGO League competition. Three of those teams advanced to the State tournament.

 Nine girls earned their Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a girl can achieve in Girl Scouts. In addition, 133 girls earned the Girl Scout Silver Award and 342 girls earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award.  Twenty-three percent of girl members took advantage of a GSWISE camp experience where they made new friends, explored the world around them and learned a variety of new skills.  Over 5,000 girls were reached through Community Outreach, which brings the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls who might not otherwise have access to this life-changing opportunity.

6

2013 Highlights  Girls met at Blingin’ on the Bronze events in 2013 to brainstorm ways they could positively impact their communities. More than 225 Girl Scout Juniors focused on mapping their communities’ issues and assets as they learned about local non-profit organizations at work. They took this knowledge back to their troops to begin working on the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can earn - the Girl Scout Bronze Award – which requires completion of both a Journey and a community service project. The event launch was done in conjunction with Kappa Delta Sorority.  Seventy-five girls in grades 6 to 12 participated in hands-on workshops at the 2013 Teen Leadership Conference. Girls considered different strategies for sharing an important message with others. They discussed public speaking, book writing and entrepreneurship as avenues for communicating, and ways to tailor their message to make it relevant and inspirational to a specific audience.

Adult Support

More than 3,000 adults were newly appointed to leadership positions.

 GSWISE continues to provide strong adult educational opportunities for volunteers with over 3,000 participants taking part in enrichment opportunities.

 A plan was developed to deliver key adult training curriculum and training courses online. The first adult volunteer training video, “Council 101” will be posted on gswise.org in spring 2013.

Brand  With input from GSWISE volunteers and staff, gswise.org was completely overhauled and re-designed. The new and greatly improved site was launched in September 2013.  During the 2012-2013 membership year GSWISE launched a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube .

Camp Alice Chester taught me I could do anything I put my mind to (portaging a canoe for forty rods,

quote

for example) and that making friends is never as hard as it seems (I sang the Hokey Pokey in a bush during a thunderstorm--for an hour!--with people I’d known for two days, and enjoyed myself doing it) and that I may not be the most athletic, or outgoing, or graceful but I sure can try to be better. - Girl Scout Cadette 8

2013 Highlights Brand, cont. 

In September 2013, GSWISE revised and revived its K-5 girl and adult volunteer recruitment campaign utilizing GSUSA’s newly created “I Can’t Wait To” materials, design and language, with the goal of instilling confidence, leadership skills, and a collaborative spirit in girls. From the words to the visuals, this campaign is designed to show girls and adults that with us, they’ll always have something to be excited about.

Resources 

The work on our Long Range Property Plan continues to move forward with the selection of a firm to work with us on envisioning and designing the Alice Chester Center in East Troy into a “WOW” leadership campus with a more robust capacity for events and with facilities to provide progressive outdoor experiences like adventure programming.

Urban and Latina 

In 2013, girls participated in 60-minute sessions over a four-week period built around the Girl Scout Leadership Journey It’s Your Story –Tell It! during Girl Scouting in the School Day, a program that serves girls in K5 through fifth grade through Girl Scout Leadership Experience programming at their schools. During engaging activities themed on Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, the girls built self-esteem and confidence in their leadership abilities.

The Urban Outreach program keeps girls engaged throughout the long summer months with Girl Scout programming offered at summer recreation sites. In 2013, 825 girls in grades kindergarten through fifth took part in the SENSEible Fun workshop, which focuses on using science related activities, to gain a great understanding of how and why each of the five senses functions as it does.

It is easy to take for granted things around you. But the volunteering I did through Girl Scouts was a chance for me to see how much an act of pure kindness can affect people, even when it is something I myself would overlook. Things I myself would have seen as ordinary can sometimes mean a lot to someone else, and my contribution can mean even more. - Girl Scout Ambassador 14

In Girl Scouts girls learn to be leaders that lead with kindness. Girl Scouting gives girls a strong sense of themselves, but also teaches them to be curious and concerned about others and the world around them. - Girl Scout parent and day camp director

I was the drum major for my high school band both my junior and senior year. It was my job to stand in front of 200 high school students, gain their respect, and be a servant leader in order to help the band grow and act as a team. The skills I gained in Girl Scouts helped me feel conďŹ dent enough to not only fulďŹ ll this role, but be really effective as a leader. - Girl Scout Ambassador
