Tears as Javea remembers AN EMOTIONAL Remembrance Sunday service was staged by the Javea Branch of the Royal British Legion. Legion members were joined at the Fishermans’ Church on Sunday afternoon by veterans of World War II, members of the Royal Navy Association, the Royal Air force Association, the Aircrew Association and members of the public. And Roger Dawes, chairman of the Javea Branch of the RBL, explained the service was always staged in the afternoon to allow people to watch the traditional service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall in the morning. He said the Javea service was taken

by Father Robin Carter of the Anglican Church on the Costa Blanca. “Particularly moving was the Lady Elizabeth School choir, who sang so well they brought a tear to the eye of many of the congregation,” said Roger. He said the work of the RBL was ongoing and people felt particularly Father involved with British troops currently Robin fighting abroad. Carter And €877 was raised for the Poppy with Appeal in the church collection. Roger RBL added: “We are now collecting and members counting the contents of all the poppy and boxes we put out in the area to establish association how much we have raised this year.” standards

Top class JALON AND Orba Lions Club made a donation of €2,000 to the Raquel Paya School for disabled children in Denia to upgrade a classroom. Club president Stuart Aitchison and his wife Andrea presented School Director Maite Marti (pictured right) with a cheque which will fund the purchase of a computer, projector and screen for the last class to lack the valuable teaching aid. The school has around 60 pupils aged from three to late teens and has a catchment area covering most of the Marina Alta. It is part of the Valencia education system but constantly needs support to provide specialised equipment for its students. Jalon and Orba Lions will be present at Orba Christmas Fair on 4th and 5th December and are staging a seasonal musical evening on 10th December. Turtle crosses Atlantic

A LOGGERHEAD turtle found on the beach near Torrevieja came from Florida, say experts. The turtle was identified thanks to a microchip implanted in its skin at birth at NMFS Galveston Laboratory in Florida in 2003. It is now recovering at the Arca del Mar centre in Valencia from injuries it sustained during its long swim.
