by Keith Nicol LAST WEEK Eduardo Dolon, Mayor of Torrevieja and the Director of Foreign Affairs of the Chinese city of Huizhou, Qiaohui Liu, signed a memorandum for the development of trade relations and friendly cooperation as a prelude to a future twinning between the two cities. The signing ceremony, which was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Huizhou Jinhui Huang, Deputy Provincial Tourism on the Costa Blanca, Joaquín Albaladejo, and Councillor for Tourism, Luis Maria Pizana, took place in the new Office of Tourism on the Paseo Vista Alegre. The town is located in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, has some similarities to Torrevieja since it also has important natural parks and is a major area for tourism. Both delegations took time to view videos promoting tourism in both cities, and have initiated plans to finalize the partnership. Eduardo Dolon invited representatives of Huizhou to participate in future editions the International Contest of Habanera and Polyphony of Torrevieja, which throughout its

SUNDAY SWIMMERS near the Valencian resort of Patacona were warned not to enter the water beyond knee-deep as Alboraya lifeguards, assisted by the Guardia Civil, tried to locate a shark sighted on Saturday about 200m from the coast. The shark was estimated to be around 2m in length and had been seen loitering in an area popular with swimmers. Patrol vessels of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard toured the beach area throughout the day on Sunday while agents on the shore searched the horizon through binoculars for a tell-tale fin. The council has announced plans to enlist the help of Oceanogràfic specialists, suspecting the shark may have approached the coast as a result of being injured or disoriented.
