Laboratorium Bergara visita obligada

ergara es una villa de la comarca de Debagoiena rodeada de verdes montes. Este municipio guipuzcoano cuenta con un casco histórico monumental, uno de los mejor conservados del País Vasco y formado por notables edificios e iglesias, que se pueden conocer a través de las visitas guiadas que ofrece la Oficina de Turismo. La gastronomía vasca está muy presente en los bares y restaurantes de la localidad que brindan a vecinos y visitantes deliciosas miniaturas en forma de “pintxo”, pero también magníficos restaurantes para degustar la alta gastronomía local. Destaca igualmente la repostería tradicional, con los típicos “rellenos” y “tostones”. Dejando a un lado el casco urbano, el municipio cuenta con numerosos lugares para
disfrutar de la naturaleza, como el anillo verde o los paseos en caballo por la zona. Bergara es la cuna de la ciencia en el País Vasco y allí se descubrió un elemento químico, el Wolframio. Los más curiosos tienen una visita obligada en el Museo en Laboratorium que cuenta la historia del Real Seminario con piezas originales de su colección científica. También muestra el desarrollo experimentado por la sociedad en estos últimos 250 años gracias a la ciencia. La visita al museo se inicia en el jardín con especies botánicas de varios continentes y a continuación se realiza un viaje al siglo XVIII, para ayudar a los hermanos Elhuyar a descubrir el wolframio, cazar con los dedos los elementos químicos de la tabla periódica o conocer animales de Oceanía, Asia o América.

he town of Bergara is surrounded by verdant mountains in Gipuzkoa’s Debagoiena region. The local tourist office offers guided tours of the town’s old quarter, which is one of the best-preserved in the Basque Country and boasts a number of noteworthy churches and buildings. Basque food is also an important feature of the town, with bars offering an excellent range of delicious miniature pintxo cuisine and restaurants outdoing themselves with exquisite local fare. Look out for the traditional Bergara desserts “rellenos” and “tostones”. There are plenty of areas and activities outside the town for getting out and enjoying nature, such as the green belt and horse trekking.

Bergara is also famous for being the Basque cradle of science. In fact, the chemical element tungsten was discovered here. Curious minds won’t want to miss the Laboratorium Museum which documents the history of the Royal Seminary and houses some of its original laboratory equipment. It also chronicles science-driven progress over the last 250 years. The visit commences in the museum’s botanical garden where visitors can observe species from different continents. It continues in the museum, with a journey back to the 18th century to help the Elhuyar brothers in their discovery of tungsten, followed by some interactive fun learning about the periodic table of elements and the animals of Oceania, Asia, and the Americas.
