events of the year: the Medieval Market. With the city’s Old Quarter as the perfect setting, the market recreates the atmosphere of Vitoria in the Middle Ages when it was an important crossroads for people travelling north to south.
The International Magic Festival, Magialdia, the last festival in the summer season, takes place from September 17 to 23. The festival features performances by some of the best magicians of the moment.
SPORTS ACTION The 12th Vitoria-Gasteiz Triathlon on July 8 is the sporting highlight of the summer. The entire city will be supporting the 2,600 participants from 37 countries and 50 Spanish provinces who have signed up for this highly demanding, first-class event. The route takes participants through some of the most beautiful and authentic parts of Alava. The swimming event starts and finishes at the beach in the Provincial Park of Landa; the cycling route goes through the Llanada Alavesa and Gorbeialdea regions and borders the spectacular Ullibarri-Gamboa reservoir; and the running route passes through the pedestrian streets of Vitoria finishing in the city’s Plaza España.

As running has become very popular in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the city’s hotels have taken advantage of the numerous inner and suburban parks on the city’s Green Belt to design a series of Walking and Running routes for their guests to get outdoors and take some exercise.
