NEW DEVELOPMENT FOR FENGHUANG

The main theme of the project is to retrain the north area of Fenghuang ancient town, in the Zhashui County. The design area is a site that used to be fields, and has a total surface of 39361.49 square meters and it is characterized by different natural elements. One of them is the river Shechuan, which used to be an attractive point for commercial exchanges, and it delimits the north part of the area from west to east. Also the mountains are a main point, since give a sense of protection to the whole area, enclosing the city. Studying Fenghuang the first characteristic that comes up is the division between the ancient town.

The main design goals concern different topics was Controlled expansion of the city, Redesign the commercial asset of the city, gaining new working opportunity, keep and emphasize some characteristics of the traditional courtyard houses and create a sustainable tourism infrastructure for the city. For the new structure of the design area we have underlined the old curtain courtyards and the last line of most recent buildings that give two important lines to follow. Later on we set ourselves that these two roads must be link. These links are given by the line of the ancient fields which can be found also in some openings all the way through the city. This new paths divide the city into different radial strips that will have a specific functions, commercial, residential or agricultural, and different connections with the old town (for example the commercial path that goes in and out the ancient courtyard to let the tourists experience a total journey of the local culture).

The main decision of project was to find a connection between the ancient town and the developing expansion. Important was to offer a solution for the residents and for the tourists. That was the reason why we designed twodifferent house types - the commercial and the residental building.

The commercial building underline the north - south direction, the direction of the main paths and the connection between the ancient town and the expansion. These commercial buildings are located on a main path, this path is going through the building to draw the tourists inside to the traditional stores. Furthermore the idea was to give the visitors a feeling of the chinese traditions with its courtyards. The building difference between the outside and inside. From outside the buildings appears monolith and closed, Whereas in the inside, wooden sliding elements and large openings give a light and opened appearance.

The residential building underline the west and east direction. The whole building is more closed in south and north direction, so at our main axis to give a privacy to the inhabitants. The location of the buildings are next to the main paths and always in combination to fields to give a view and a good accessibility to the fields for the farmers living in the residential buildings. The space inside enable six apartments for famers and citizens of the fenghuang town. The material also difference between the outside and inside like in the commercial building. The external side is more closed with brick whereas the inside in the courtyard, wood panels bring brightness and openness.

TRANSFORMATION OF THE PORTA ROMANA RAILWAY YARD

Due to their urban location and spatial dimension, the Milanese railway yards represent an indisputable potential for a multiscale urban transformation.

Among these areas, one of the most important is the port of Porta Romana, which has historically played the role of a barrier, noting the distance between the historic and Berutian city to the north, compared to the southern edge affected by widespread and discontinuous urban regeneration projects; this has created an element of fracture in the urban design.

The design goal is to characterize the railway yard as an easily traversable space, through reconnection of the ancient urban fabric with the more modern one through connections that exploit soft mobility, keeping the railway axis inside the railway yard, but bypassing it in several places. This will make it possible to have a variety of functions within the area, including residential and Social Housing spaces that will alternate with work spaces dedicated to the tertiary sector, and others to commerce. These spaces communicate with each other through organized public areas that will alternate between squares with different paving and large equipped green surfaces. Finally, one of the major problems considered was that of the railway line, which, due to its inability to be buried, could potentially have a strong impact from the landscape point of view.

RISORGIMELZO: KM 0 CULTURE

The Project “RisorgiMelzo: KM 0 culture” main objective is to revitalize the city by ensuring that citizens re-appropriate places that are significant for it, such as the numerous historical and artistic assets, squares and the former Agricultural Consortium. Through the redevelopment of the former agricultural consortium, Melzo will regain a multifunctional place that welcomes people of all age groups, given its complexity and the great variety of activities that it is able to host.

The new “No Stop Market” aims to recover the spirit and liveliness of the old consortium, adapting at the same time with the new needs of the population, so as to reveal itself as an inclusive and current environment. In addition, the project focuses on ecosustainability: minimum consumption, recycling, the invitation to pursue a healthy lifestyle in harmony with the natural environment, the use of clean energy.

The external areas anterior and posterior to the consortium will be configured as two new squares that will be an integral part of the new functions of the consortium, and of the new slow mobility paths. At the rear, the square will be configured as a real landmark, so as to be able to bring together all age groups, from the youngest ones who will be able to take advantage of the new skating equipment to the older ones, who can simply sit and talk.

The built part of the complex will include 5 macro-areas. The most important and characteristic one will be that of the covered market which will in turn be composed of two micro-areas.

RENOVATION OF THE BUSTO ARSIZIO OLD PRISON

The former Austrian prison of Busto Arsizio, located in the city center, is part of the building complex of Palazzo MarlianiCicogna, a historic building of great value, which currently houses the municipal library. Closed since 1970, the building needs immediate action to safeguard it, and at the same time lends itself to being used by the community for cultural purposes. The redevelopment project starts from the idea of exploiting the location and spaces of the building to create a student residence, converting the old rooms that bear the signs of prisoners’ life, through a path of discovery and unprecedented learning.

Through the analysis and the geometric relief of materials and degradations, it was possible to draw up a series of interventions aimed at the conservation and maintenance of the structure, transforming its function, but not its appearance and fundamental characteristics, both internal and external. The prison will house several student rooms, private common areas and common areas open to the public, including the exhibition rooms on the ground floor. The addition of a volume built in xlam and covered with corten strips is also envisaged, designed in such a way as to graft onto the pre-existing structure while maintaining the harmony between the two parts: a glazed band, set back from the façades, emphasizes the junction between the two bodies. The additional volume, in addition to housing the stairwell and elevator necessary for internal circulation, contains functions that can be used by students such as a relaxation room and a gym, while on the ground floor there is a bar, also accessible for external users.

The aim of the project is to reconvert the industrial area of the Coignet enterprise, in the municipality of Saint Denis, into an area for living, culturally growing and recreating oneself respecting the traces of the historical heritage but also the need for sustainable development. of peripheral areas. This is possible through the creation of a new urban park within which to establish residential, educational and recreational functions, with the aim of respecting high standards of sustainability, adaptability and reversibility. The design of the park aims to create a new urban hub for the inhabitants of Saint Denis, the new green lung of the city, but also the aim of promoting sustainable and active mobility through the creation of pedestrian paths, specific areas dedicated to sport, sociality, community life and nature itself. Rest areas, shaded areas and shields for railway and car traffic have also been provided in order to ensure high acoustic, thermal and visual comfort for the users of the area. The quality of the interior spaces was a fundamental point for the design of the housing units and educational spaces: an attempt was made to ensure high thermal, acoustic and visual comfort through strategies that envisaged systems with high energy performance and views suitable for the internal dimensions of the spaces. In particular, for residential units, where possible, an attempt was made to ensure a double facing, control systems for temperatures and humidity, air quality through a careful choice of interior cladding materials.

The parish of Sant’Apollinare in Baggio is located in a plot of land of about 6000m2, in a strategic and central position for the neighborhood, close to via Bartolomeo Cabella, an axis directly connected to the most important artery, Via Delle Forze Armate From a traffic point of view, the project does not intend to propose a substantial modification of traffic; the objective pursued was to redesign the edges and margins on both sides of the carriageways specifically forming part of the block. The specificity of this “non-invasive” design action is aimed at rethinking the road layout in favor of a new concept of circulation that provides for easier and safer movement for pedestrians and cyclists.

The design action began with the demolition of the buildings that persisted in the lot, the one used as an Oratory and the one with a sports function. This was a conscious and responsible choice, keeping the old volumes would not have allowed the design of an integrated and permeable open public space. The new buildings of the project, as previously there are two, the one to the South-West consists of two floors above ground plus one underground and is intended to fulfill the function of an Oratory, while the second to the North-East, consists of a floor above ground and one underground and has a multipurpose sports gym inside. The first volume is characterized by an “L” shape with the intention of metaphorically embracing the equipped courtyard that is inside. This gesture is designed both to give a sense of greater protection and to ensure better shading of the external areas.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL SPORT HALL

The design of the building used as a Sport Hall due to its different intended use, was conceived differently than the oratory:

the west and east façades, the main ones, are entirely managed through a curtain wall system which, in addition to ensuring the maximum contribution of brightness and solar radiation, favors and enhances the concept of visual-spatial permeability, which is certainly one of the key principles of the project.

The West entrance facade was designed to be covered and repaired, through the creation of an integrated roof that will also protect the external spaces facing the entrances.

The space also houses a vertical circulation system that can be used by users of the sports facility which leads to the basement where the changing rooms are located. In an integrated design logic, the adoption of this choice has created the opportunity to create a quality urban space, hybrid, accessible to all and connected to the adjacent linear square system

The new home will be located in the town of lissone, in the province of monza and brianza, about 20 minutes from the city of Milan.

The aim of the project is to transform an old laboratory and use it as a new home, through a change of use.

HOUSE RENOVATION IN LISSONE

Collaboration with GBcasa

The old laboratory, located on the ground floor, are part of a building complex builted in 1950s, consisting of three houses located on the first floor and belonging to a single family. Before undertaking this operation, the feedback provided by the refurbishment of the first laboratory was important. The renovation carried out by another condominium showed how through a good job it was possible to obtain an excellent final result.

The laboratory, in its original state, has an area of 90 square meters, which is completely free from load-bearing walls or other dividing walls. This will allow you to operate inside with greater freedom, ensuring a high quality of the interior spaces. The new house will have a new living room, facing south which will be directly related to the kitchen thanks to a furniture that will favor the concept of open space, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. finally there will also be a garage, necessary according to the building regulations of the municipality of lissone in case of change of destination, and directly connected to the house.
