PIPEDREAMING SERIES OMNIPRESENT
The Latex Vacuum Live Performance Sculpture offers a profound philosophical metaphor for both personal suppression and broader perspective. As performers are physically vacuum-sealed within latex, they experience a direct, visceral sense of constriction, symbolizing the social and psychological forces that suppress individual expression and autonomy. Yet, the incorporation of drone footage, capturing them from above, introduces a contrasting perspective. This aerial view reflects the possibility of transcending one’s immediate confines, suggesting that even in moments of restriction or oppression, there is a wider, more expansive view of the self and the world. This duality between suppression and expanded vision challenges our understanding of freedom and constraint, offering a critical reflection on how individuals can perceive themselves both in isolation and within the larger societal framework. It’s a representation of how one can feel trapped within personal or systemic limitations, yet still possess the capacity to gain insight and a broader view of their situation, much like Foucault’s notion of power being omnipresent, but not absolute.
