• For National Arts & Humanities month, ChathamArts, NHSAEF and NHS sponsor a Creative Conversation on Arts Integration with EbzB’s Serena Ebhardt and David zum Brunnen. • A Musical Cornucopia, features choral & instrumental ensembles, and Africa, a collaborative work performed with the NHS Dance Ensemble. • NHSAEF president Gina Harrison is named a Friend of the Arts by the NC Art Education Association at their annual conference. • NHS Band performs at McDonald’s Community Music Day fundraiser. • Drama students attend the Playmakers Repertory Company performance of As You Like It. • National Art Honor Society members visit the Nasher Museum for The Record exhibit.

• During the fall, the NHS Marching Chargers’ 2010 competition program, Amusements, earns three First Place finishes with scores over 90 for the first time in Charger history. • Northwood celebrates National Arts in Education Week as Mayor Voller also proclaims Sept. 12-18 Pittsboro Arts in Education Week. • Dr. John Brown, director of the Duke Jazz program, joins NHS music students for a week-long residency.

• Cast members from the national touring company of Lion King visit NHS choral and dance students. • Tech theatre students take a backstage tour of Lion King at the Durham Performing Arts Center. • Theatre and music students attend a Lion King performance. • Scholastic Art Awards presents Gold Keys to Kristen Hutchinson for photography; to Richie Varnadore for video; to Emily Kerscher for painting; and to Charlotte Harrison for three photographs. Silver Keys are presented to Nate Creel for sculpture and to Charlotte Harrison for graphic design. One of Harrison’s photos receives the Wilson Times Award, and another is named an American Visions Nominee.

They take first place in the Cary competition with their program, First and Amistad. • NHS Jazz Ensemble performs at the Pittsboro Mardi Gras celebration. • NHSAEF and ChathamArts cohost an Arts Advocacy Workshop with Karen Wells of ARTS NC.

• NHS hosts the 2nd Chatham AllCounty Choral Festival featuring Chatham Central, Jordan Matthews, and Northwood singers conducted by UNC’s Dr. Dan Huff. New middle school chorus is conducted by composer Andy Beck. • Spring dance concerts feature studentchoreographed solos by Julia Sloane, Alaysia Wright and Mary Rizkalla, and a group piece by Olivia Oakley. • Spring music concerts include A Musical Gumbo with the Choral, Guitar and Dance Ensembles and the Tri-M Recital. • The Concert for Memorial Day, American Salute, by the Concert Band & Jazz Ensemble features middle school conductors Casey Spillman, Dylan Highsmith and Erica Essex. Leslie Burwell, Charlotte Harrison and Brooke Wilson create art performance pieces, and Durham musician Brett Harris is a featured guest performer. • Theatre and music students visit Playmakers Repertory Company to see Big River and take a backstage tour of UNC’s Paul Green Theatre. • Music, art, and dance honor societies induct new members. • Matt Kleberg receives the John Phillip Sousa Award and Justin Mann receives the Louis Armstrong Award. • NHS Jazz Ensemble performs at Motors for Music Car Show • The Spring Art Show features Senior Exhibits & special guest band, Morgan’s End.
