INDEPENDENT & CATHOLIC
As the only independent and Catholic school in northeast Ohio, Gilmour Academy is unique in its ability to provide students a highly personalized, rigorous curriculum designed to develop critical thinkers and effective communicators. Gilmour students, ages 18 months to 18 years, learn in an environment that is coed, inclusive, encouraging and rooted in faith. Gilmour students are provided the tools to make the world a better place and understand that they have the responsibility to do so. It’s the advantage of being independent and Catholic.
GILMOUR OUTCOMES
DEVELOP SKILLS FOR LIFE.
The Gilmour outcomes are introduced in the Montessori toddler and preschool programs, then expanded upon and developed throughout the dynamic Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. Gilmour graduates emerge ready for the next step and confident in their ability to make the world more humane and just.
GILMOUR STUDENTS ARE: PEOPLE OF HOPE ON A JOURNEY OF FAITH | COURAGEOUS, COLLABORATIVE LEADERS | EMPATHETIC, ENGAGED GLOBAL CITIZENS | AUTHENTIC, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS | REFLECTIVE, ANALYTICAL THINKERS | INNOVATIVE, RESILIENT PROBLEM SOLVERS | CURIOUS, RESOURCEFUL LIFELONG LEARNERS
Whether through our rigorous curriculum, the robust schoolwide service program, our unique self-assessment model, Socratic-style instruction, or the myriad opportunities students are provided to explore their interests in authentic settings, Gilmour students naturally and definitively attain these Gilmour outcomes during their time on campus.

MISSION
TO DEVELOP THE COMPETENCE TO SEE AND THE COURAGE TO ACT IN CREATING A MORE HUMANE AND JUST SOCIETY.
Founded by the Brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross, our Holy Cross mission is the foundation from which we educate the mind and empower the heart of every Gilmour student. Beyond the classroom, students are provided countless opportunities to engage in our mission through service, including trips across the US and, for the past 18 years, trips to Honduras. Upper School students must accrue 60 hours of service and reflect upon their experience in light of our mission before they graduate, but the overwhelming majority of graduating seniors far exceed that number and the mission moves beyond a written reflection to a lived reality.
COMPETENCE AND COURAGE
NATURE-BASED LEARNING
Our new campuswide program has turned our 144-acre campus into a learning laboratory featuring a greenhouse; forest, field and pond habitats; an apiary; a chicken coop; and multiple gardens. Together with sustainability initiatives across all divisions and new course offerings in environmental science, the facilities and programming serve to foster a deep sense of environmental appreciation, consciousness and social responsibility.
SIGNATURE PROGRAMS
PERFORMING ARTS
Gilmour offers many opportunities for students to discover and express their unique voices. Along with our diverse courses and extracurricular opportunities in vocal music, drama, speech and debate, theater and band, Gilmour is proud to be in partnership with the Cleveland International Piano Competition, designated a Steinway Select School, and home to the Encore Chamber Music Festival and Institute. We will continue to expand partnerships with community arts organizations to provide workshops, masterclasses and performance opportunities with real world professionals. We are thrilled to raise the curtain on the new hub for our arts programming - The Lorraine and Bill Dodero Center for the Performing Arts.
WELLNESS
Born out of our Holy Cross commitment to educate the whole child, Gilmour's Wellness program is integrated into all aspects of the Gilmour experience to enhance each student’s physical, psychological, spiritual and social well-being. Whether through counseling, education, nutrition, spiritual guidance or physical activities such as weight training or yoga, Gilmour has designed a host of offerings to keep students happy and healthy as they grow and achieve to their highest potential. gilmour.org
LANCER TECH
Our state-of-the-art facilities and curricula are at the vanguard of technology education. Students have the opportunity to take programming, robotics, digital media, web design and app development, and 2D and 3D game design. They have access to Gilmour’s cutting-edge Fab Lab, where they can work with industrystandard laser cutters, mills and 3D printers to build whatever the mind can imagine.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
BRING YOUR EDUCATION TO LIFE.
From the very beginning of a student’s journey at Gilmour, opportunities are presented outside of the traditional classroom. We offer multiple-day interdisciplinary experiences at the Lower School; hands-on learning opportunities in our chicken coops, greenhouse, apiary or robotics lab; and the annual favorite - the Middle School Boat Float in our pool. Additionally, students can participate in out-of-state immersion trips for all divisions and out-of-country immersion trips for our Upper School students; off-campus experiential fieldtrips; the multi-year VECTOR program for those interested in pursuing a specific career field; semester-long internships; or summer programs sourced by our full-time Coordinator of Learning Enhancement. Gilmour students are provided authentic, practical experiences. As such, our students develop critical problem-solving skills applicable in the real world, and our Upper School students leave with a highly developed professional network and a well-rounded portfolio of relevant work experience enabling them to stand out from their peers.
COMMUNITY
OUR COMMUNITY SHARES A COMMON SPACE AND A COMMON SPIRIT.
Gilmour Academy is more than a school – it is a community of teachers, students, administrators and parents partnering for an educational experience that is secondto-none. Rooted in our Holy Cross traditions, the Gilmour community is a community of faith, inclusion and purpose. The Gilmour experience is one that our students feel and carry with them long after their days on campus. It is what draws them back to campus as adults and has created our vibrant, engaged alumni network of thousands of graduates around the world. #LancerNation
PARTNERSHIP
CAMPUS LIFE
GET INVOLVED AND GAIN PERSPECTIVE.
Athletics, arts, environmental, civic and faith-based activities are just the start of the opportunities at Gilmour. Clubs and extracurriculars are offered in all three divisions and range from robotics and video production to community outreach and swim or figure skating lessons. Caring teachers, advisors and student leaders foster inclusivity and encourage students to get involved. Our 70-bed residential community includes students from 10 countries and 14 states, providing our school community with a robust international flavor and the perspective of students from across the country and around the world.
ATHLETICS
BE PART OF A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE.
As part of our Wellness Program, the Gilmour Academy Lancer athletic program is designed to enable every student to develop to their fullest potential, whether they are joining a team to develop friendships and get some exercise or are hoping to eventually compete at the collegiate level. Athletic opportunities begin early with our Lower School Sports program, which introduces our youngest Lancers to a variety of sports throughout the school year. Lower School students also have the opportunity to take swimming and skating lessons right on campus! At the Middle and Upper School levels, 91% of students participate in our athletics program, which consists of 24 varsity teams, two prep hockey teams (including the only girls prep hockey team in the state of Ohio) and 26 junior varsity, freshman and Middle School teams. Many of our varsity teams are routinely state contenders.

POSSIBILITIES
INVEST IN THE FUTURE.
Two of the Holy Cross community’s core values are hospitality and inclusivity. As such, we strive to make a Gilmour education available for all qualified students. Through our generous tuition assistance program, Gilmour partners with families to help make the Gilmour experience a reality. We are committed to enrolling students from a diverse range of backgrounds and have families at every income level receiving assistance because each family’s circumstances are unique. We know that all students can thrive in our environment, regardless of their family’s ability to pay, and we want to provide them that opportunity.
ONE SCHOOL. ONE CAMPUS.
All three divisions of Gilmour Academy are housed on our 144-acre campus. The intercampus loop connects the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, allowing for multi-age programming and a connection between students in all three divisions. Our campus is home to a residence hall; natatorium; two NHL-sized ice rinks; an Athletic Center; a golf simulator and putting green; a brand new baseball stadium, track, tennis courts, turf field and Center for Performing Arts; gardens, a greenhouse, nature trails, an apiary and a chicken coop. Dear Friends,
How lucky I am to have the opportunity to welcome you to Gilmour –a place that is as much a part of me as any other part of my life. While I began in my role as Head of School in 2015, my journey at Gilmour began in 1978.
Over the years, I have served in a variety of capacities at Gilmour – as a classroom teacher, an administrator, a member of the institutional development team, and, perhaps, most importantly, as a Gilmour parent. I understand all that goes into choosing a school for your child and I know that it is not a decision that is made lightly. I assure you that sending your child to Gilmour will be among the best decisions you ever make.
The Congregation of Holy Cross founded Gilmour in 1946 and the Holy Cross brothers and priests, as well as the lay people with whom I work, model the core values upon which the school was founded and ensure that the Holy Cross mission is at the core of all that we do. Their passion for their students and the school we all love inspires me each day.
I hope you enjoy getting to know Gilmour. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if I can answer any questions or be of any assistance to your family during the admission process.
May God bless you and all you love,
Kathleen C. Kenny Head of School
