Notes:

Objectives and Purpose: Today I will discuss why primary colours are important, and that they make up all the other colors in the world. We will mix colors to see and understand which primary colours mixed together make certain secondary colours. We will also discuss black and white affect colours. Input and Modelling: I will demonstrate how to mix two paint colours on a styrofoam plate properly. I will also advise students to only mix the primary colours with each other and not to mix all of the colours together. Then I will show students to use the colour mixing activity page, and show them where and how to fill it in. I will also show them how to clean their paint brushes with the cup of water and the paper towel. Guided Practice (Activity): Each student will be handed their own styrofoam plate and the colour mixing activity page (http://www.firstschool.ws/t/apcolorarc.htm). Each student will receive a small red, blue, and yellow blot of Crayola washable kids paint. Each student will first Remind mix primary colors. They must make the three secondary colors: Green, Students to be purple, and orange. The color mixing activity page will allow students neat and try avoid getting to show which primary colors make which secondary colors. I will encourage peer assistance, and monitor the room to make sure everyone paint everywhere understands the activity. Independent Practice: Once each student is completed his/her color mixing page, each will receive black and white paint. Students will experiment with primary colours, and see what happens when black or white is added. Closure: Clean up. The class will have a question period. The following questions will be asked: Why are colours important? Why do you think is it important to know the primary and secondary colours? What do black and white do when mixed with other colours?
