Our School’s Mission Emirates International School (EIS) provides a broad international education, in English, designed for local and expatriate students, which promotes excellence in all academic activities. It is our mission to enhance the educational, social and physical development of our students, encouraging them to think analytically and creatively, in preparation for the next stage of their education. EIS provides a safe, yet challenging environment, which develops in our students an inter cultural sensitivity and responsibility towards the people and environment of our local and global community. Emirates International Schools are owned and operated by the Al Habtoor Group (www.habtoor.com). There are two sister schools, one at Jumeirah and one at Meadows.

Our School’s History Jumeirah campus opened in September 1991 and Meadows in September 2005. Both schools have grown rapidly and provide high quality international education to over 3,600 students from more than 80 nationalities. Both campuses are registered IB world schools. The schools are members of the Council of International Schools (CIS) (Meadows) and The British Schools of the Middle East (BSME) (Jumeirah).
Our Faculty The schools employ well-qualified and experienced teachers and support staff from over 20 different countries. All teachers are registered with, and approved by the UAE Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), having passed our own thorough recruitment and selection process. Continuous staff development and appraisal ensures all faculty members are aware of current educational developments and undertake professional development, both within the UAE and overseas.

Internationalism Respect
of our differences and appreciation of our similarities remain at the heart of our school philosophy. Local and International cultural events are celebrated at the school as part of the curriculum and during special days. Student learning is facilitated through the best international instructional programmes, following the International Baccalaureate continuum of education. THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAMME The school follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes of international education. • The Primary Years Programme (PYP: KG/EY to Year 6) • The Middle Years Programme (MYP: Years 7-11) • The Diploma Programme (DP: Years12-13) • The Career-related Programme (CP: Years 12-13) The four programmes have a common educational framework: a consistent philosophy about teaching and learning which focuses on the development of the whole child and an overarching concept of how to develop international-mindedness. Each programme promotes the education of the whole person, emphasising intellectual, emotional, social and physical growth, involving the traditions of learning in languages, humanities, sciences, mathematics and arts.
The curriculum includes all student activities, academic and non-academic, for which the school takes responsibility. The curriculum is expressed as three interrelated components: the written, the taught and the assessed curricula. The written curriculum identifies what is worth knowing for students. Teachers and administrators take consideration of the trans-disciplinary themes and the subject-specific knowledge, concepts and skills covered by the programme. Students explore a set of themes which represents shared human experiences. These themes: • have global significance – for all students of all cultures • offer students the opportunity to explore the commonalities of human experiences and are supported by knowledge, concepts and skills from the traditional subject areas but utilise them in ways which transcend the confines of these subjects and will be revisited throughout the students’ years of schooling, so the result is immersion in broad ranging, in-depth, articulated curriculum content, contributing to the common ground which unifies the curricula in all IB schools The knowledge component of the written curriculum is determined by the belief that there are areas of knowledge which, while important for any student, are especially significant in schools which aim to promote international-mindedness on the part of their students.

International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) KG/EY to Year 6 Student learning in the primary years at EIS is managed through the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Students inquire into, and learn about local and global issues in the context of units of inquiry, each of which addresses a particular transdisciplinary theme. Each of these units:
• Stand alone as an engaging, challenging, relevant and significant experience
• Contribute to a coherent, school-wide
programme of inquiry that is framed in terms of transdisciplinary themes of global significance • Draw together elements of different subject areas to support the exploration of a central idea, including elements of languages, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, PSPE, ICT and Islamic Education/Cultural Studies. Children undertake project work, individual book work, independent research and group presentations linked to their theme. There is still place for learning the essential skills needed to become an independent life-long learner and attention to the details of reading, writing and mathematics are not forgotten but as far as possible integrated into the unit, as well as being taught as standalone areas.

International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) Years 7 to 11 The
Middle Years Programme provides a framework of academic challenge which encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, and become critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP is designed to provide students with the values and opportunities which will enable them to develop sound judgement. The three fundamental concepts of the MYP are: • holistic learning • intercultural awareness • communication.
International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP) Years 12 & 13 The CP is a framework of international education, which incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education. The programme leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) Years 12 & 13 The IB diploma is designed as an academically challenging and balanced programme of education, with final examinations which prepare students for success at university and life beyond.
At EIS, students undertake three IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four components and a career-related study. For CP students, DP courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigour of the programme; the career-related study further supports the programme’s academic strength and provides practical, real-world approaches to learning; and the CP core helps them to develop skills and competencies required for lifelong learning.
Students study six courses at higher or standard level. These courses come from a range of subject groups, thereby ensuring a breadth of experience in languages, social studies, experimental sciences and mathematics. Students must also successfully complete the following programmes: Theory of Knowledge, CAS and an Extended Essay. Student outcomes at EIS are regularly among the best in Dubai and the UAE.

Arts Arts are included in the curriculum throughout the Schools and developed through concerts, plays, assemblies and special events throughout the year. All KG/EY to Year 6 children are encouraged to participate in at least one music and drama event every year, which is performed for their parents. High School Drama students will perform solo and in groups throughout the year as part of the Drama and Music assessments. In addition, our Music Centre provides a wide range of after school private instrumental lessons, for children from KG/EY to Year 13.
Sports All children from KG/EY to Year 11 participate in Physical Education classes at least once a week. In the Primary School, these classes are intended to develop skills, sportsmanship and team play. Inter-school competitions are encouraged. In the High School, greater emphasis is placed on individual and team performances and inter-school competition is encouraged. Sports Days, held across the school annually, provide all children with an opportunity to measure their own improvement against their individual previous performances.

Graduates We have celebrated our students graduating from our IB programme since 1993. These young people have been accepted into the very best universities and colleges in the UAE and around the world, recently including MIT, UC Berkeley, LSE, Stanford, King’s College, London and many other world-class institutions. An EIS Alumni program will help the school to develop links with tertiary education providers, and enable our graduates to maintain their relationship with our school and community, long after their studies here have concluded.
After Activities
School
The school offers its own comprehensive after school activity programme, (ASA), during the first two terms. These activities cover additional aspects of sport, social, cultural and recreational elements not always featured in the regular curriculum. A full timetable of more than 70 free activities is published at the beginning of each of the two terms.
Student Welfare Student welfare services at EIS include full time Student Counsellors, Deans of Students, School Doctors and Registered Nurses. A team of these professionals are dedicated to each School. Everyone involved in student welfare plays an active role in school life, including regular class visits, individual private sessions and special assemblies. Academic advice is also available to our High School students as they make subject choices and then, ultimately, University selections in Years 12 and 13.

A further selection of paid activities is also available including Music Centre, Ballet and Modern Dance, Karate, Swimming and Golf which are all operated by carefully selected specialist service providers.
