WGN-TV News Anchor Micah Materre served as emcee for the You Can Make a Difference Telethon, which aimed to educate Chicago viewers about organ and tissue donation and encourage them to offer life to others as registered donors.
Our African-American Task Force helped to bring the donation message to Chicago-area television viewers by taking part in the You Can Make a Difference Telethon, which aired on WJYS-TV, Channel 62, on October 27. Micah Materre of WGN-TV, Art Norman of NBC5-TV and Sonya Blakey of V103 radio served as hosts for the event, much of which was taped here at Gift of Hope. The telethon featured donation advocate and Chicago Bears cornerback Charles “Peanut” Tillman, who gave an update on his daughter, Tiana, who received a lifesaving heart transplant as a baby, an interview with Secretary of State Jesse White and several interviews with donor families and transplant recipients. The event also aired man-on-the-street interviews that captured how everyday citizens feel about organ and tissue donation. You can view the You Can Make a Difference Telethon here.
