We provided 919 lifesaving organs for transplant in 2013 through the generous decisions of a record 323 donors and their families. In addition, 1,487 donors and their families — also a record — authorized the donation of bone, skin, heart valves and other tissue for transplant during the year.

“These achievements underscore the remarkable dedication that we and our healthcare partners have to honoring the decision to donate and bring lifesaving organs and tissue to people in need,” said President/CEO Kevin Cmunt. “In 2013, we helped more people than ever before in our 27-year history, and we made a huge difference in the lives of many people. But none of this would have been possible without the hard work and high energy of our staff, coupled with the selfless decisions made by individuals and family members to offer the gift of life to others through donation.”

Although 2013 was a great year, there’s no resting on our laurels, Kevin said. “We’ve raised the bar to a new height for the organization, but we expect to raise it even higher in 2014 by strengthening our relationships with hospitals and transplant centers, enhancing the way we provide medical management of potential donors, increasing Gift of Hope’s presence in our Illinois and northwest Indiana service area, and learning more about why people choose not to register and what we can do to change their minds.”

NewPolicy Expense Policy Revised The Employee Expense Reimbursement Policy (FIN002E) has been updated to reflect current practices, and a revised Expense Report form is now in use. Some of the changes will make it easier to complete expense reports. Among the noteworthy changes: • A list of attendees and/or an agenda is no longer required as supporting documentation. But business purpose still must be noted. • Hospital donor debriefing meeting meals should not be incurred without the prior knowledge and approval of a supervisor. • The Donor Meals section of the form has been eliminated because donor meals are no longer reimbursable. If you have any questions or concerns, please talk with your supervisor or Daniel Simpson, Assistant Controller.
