Medicine and Dentistry Foundation The collaboration between Albemarle Independent College and Medipathways delivers a unique programme for prospective medical and dental students to re-take one or two A-levels and apply to Medicine or Dentistry in the UK and abroad.

Although it has become increasingly difficult over the last few years for resit A-level students to gain places at UK medical and dental schools, it is nevertheless possible with the right advice and a strategic plan for resitting.

Albemarle has had a 90% success rate over the last five years with re-sit students gaining places for direct entry to medicine and dentistry in the UK.

This Pathway is Suitable for: • International or UK students.

• Students who wish to resit two Alevels and apply to UK Medical or Dental Schools but also have the option of applying to International universities to study Medicine or Dentistry • Students who wish to resit one Alevel and complete the CertHE enabling them to apply to UK Medical or Dental Schools and

have the option of 2nd year entry at an International university to study Medicine or Dentistry.

Course Highlights • The first term is dedicated to retaking up to two A-Levels with the goal of re-sitting the exams in January. This is complemented by two more terms at Birkbeck on the M&D Pre-Med® programme.

• Students are assigned a personal tutor who helps them to develop strategies for sitting modular exams as well as giving assistance where needed.

• The first term also focuses on completing the UCAS application as well as undertaking personal statement preparation and oneto-one interview practise.

• Assessments are given at appropriate intervals during the course to track student progress and provide tutorials as necessary.

• UKCAT training helps improve scores for medical or dental school entry.

• Our personal statement preparation for UCAS applications sets our students apart from other students.

• Interview practise ensures an outstanding first impression.

• Revision and examination techniques to enhance student performance.

• Weekly seminars on topical areas of medical science, debates and discussions, ensure all students keep abreast of new developments in the medical arena including those related to the NHS.

Course Structure A-level Re-take Option 1 • Retake up to 2 A-levels at Albemarle College • Students then progress on to the M&D Pre-Med programme at Birkbeck College, University of London, for a further two terms as shown below

A-level Re-take Option 2 • 1st Term: Retake 1 A-level plus M&D Pre-Med Cell Biology, Organic Chemistry & Neuroscience • 2nd Term: Respiratory & Circulatory Systems, Endocrine and Reproductive Systems, Musculoskeletal System • 3rd Term: Gastrointestinal System, Renal System, Clinical Simulation and Ethics, optional Spanish taught for those considering studying in Spain

BMAT and UKCAT Preparation Tests BMAT Preparation Courses (1 Day) BMAT – for admission to Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine (5 universities). This is a subject specific admission test compulsory for applicants to: • University of Cambridge • Imperial College London • University of Oxford

• Royal Veterinary College • University College London

BMAT Course & Examination Fees Course Fee: £250 Exam Fee (taken at Albemarle): £125 *late entries incur an extra fee of: £45

COURSE INFORMATION Each course consists of a full day starting at 9.30am and ending at 5.00pm. To register please complete the enclosed registration form.

Most students taking the UKCAT course will be new to aptitude tests and so they are taught strategies on how to approach the test, as well as given a thorough explanation as to the structure and content of each test. They then focus on practising questions, identifying weaknesses and study techniques. Students are also given revision packs to take home for further practice.

The BMAT course covers the full range of aptitudes

and skills required to take the test, as well as the Key Stage 4 Core Science and Higher Mathematics needed for the scientific knowledge and applications part of the test. Through intensive question practice, students build confidence and learn valuable test-taking skills.

The BMAT test can be taken at Albemarle on Wednesday 2nd November at 9.00 am. The UKCAT tests must be taken at Pearson Professional Centres (see UKCAT website for details of how to register).
