Nella seconda metà dell’Ottocento Courmayeur era solo un caratteristico e modesto villaggio nascosto tra le pieghe della valle, ai piedi del Monte Bianco. A quei tempi, solo alla grande nobiltà era riservato il privilegio di poter trascorrere dei lunghi periodi di villeggiatura in montagna, immersi in un ambiente semplice ma rigenerante. Già allora il Grand Hotel Royal e Golf era il luogo scelto da numerosi illustri visitatori che ricercavano nelle valli alpine quiete e ristoro. Tra questi, la più affezionata fu la Regina Margherita di Savoia che, da grande appassionata di montagna qual era, scelse proprio Courmayeur come luogo per assaporare appieno il vero spirito alpino, immergendosi, al contempo, nell’ambiente ricco di eleganza che ancora oggi contraddistingue quello che è stato il primo hotel in assoluto della Valle d’Aosta.

n the second half of the nineteenth century Courmayeur was just a quaint and modest village hidden in the valley curves, at the foot of Mont Blanc. In those days, only the noble were privileged enough to be able to spend long periods in the mountain resort, immersed in a simple but invigorating environment. Even then, the Grand Hotel Royal and Golf was the place chosen by many famous visitors who were looking for a quiet and refreshing retreat in the Alpine valleys. Among them, the most loyal was Queen Margherita of Savoy. As a great lover of the mountains she chose Courmayeur as a place to fully enjoy the true Alpine spirit whilst at the same time being immersed in an environment full of elegance that still characterizes today what was the first hotel ever in the Aosta Valley.
